Proto and GZ took off @ 7am in just above freezing temps.  It's still only 37 out there now!  We're not in AZ anymore!  ... Must get back to the warm!

Rode 261 miles yesterday, will do 269 today on the way back, taking a different route.  High winds of 50mph expected, yippee!

Pausing for breakfast in Socorro, NM after a cold ride this a.m. from Reserve.  Looking at a 350 mile ride today, so wanted an early start!!  GZ was not too happy but warmed up once we started seeing game.  Had to break twice for elk on the roadway!

Will try to check in tonight!

Loving the ride!!

Fragile eared folks turn on your cursing filters...

God damn mother #$%*ing head and cross winds!  Easily over 50mph!  I #$%*ing HATE wind so much!  Growing up in KS will do that to you.  We're in Show Low, shaking off the urge to #$%*ing punch someone, with a pitcher of Blue Moon and some nachos.  Little 350f is really struggling with this bastard of a head on wind... Sometimes can only muster 55 in third gear if its uphill.  Aside from this mother #$%*ing wind, we're having a blast!   ;D 8) ;D

The wind did get a little lighter as we neared home, but still very blustery!  Where did all the warm go?!  I leave for 1 day and you guys can't keep it together enough to keep us from being chilled all the way home?

Anyway, nobody got punched... although, I almost had to go tell a cook at the Native NewYorker in Show Low to stop abusing the blender.  He was blending croutons into bread crumbs and was shaking the blender all around while it was running, I could hear the rubber pieces shearing that mesh the motor and jug.  That went on for a good 5 minutes.  Then the bartender got on him about it.  As we left, I told her to revoke his blender license, she totally agreed and got a kick out of the fact that she wasn't the only one.  What a dufas!

We arrived at home, just before sunset, which meant the last hour was pretty hard on the eyes, as we were headed West from Globe, AZ to Mesa.  The closest we came to getting off'd the whole trip was entering our own little neighborhood, rounded the corner and some dip#$%* was driving down the left side of the street, then turned onto our own street with only 3 more houses to pass and dumb #$%* in a minivan nearly ran us over driving down the middle of the street, I swear she never even saw us as I passed her within inches.  I hate the incompetency of the drivers in this town!

Anyway, all in all... the ride was a total blast, we blazed a lot of great trails and the scenery was pretty epic.  It seems that the gremlins that have plagued both of our bikes for a while now have been exorcised, and we're glad to be home in 2 pieces.  She is one, I'm the other.   ;)

I am uploading 10 gigs of pix and video to my computer now... look for "Godzilla VS Eastern Arizona & Beyond" to hit your nearest youtube soon.   ;D

I'm never sure if GZ is shaking his fists in fury, or if he's just utterly confused about the situation...

Here he is taking in the scenery nearing Globe, AZ

Of course he sees anything with the letters B E E R and mashes the brakes for me

Here's the video!  If you click to watch on YouTube, make sure to click the little gear in the bottom corner of the viewer and watch in 1080HD if your internet will load it quickly enough.  There is also a fullscreen button down there too, if you're blind.   8)
Feel free to make comments on Youtube or share on Facebook, or wherever, if you like.  It will only make our little corner of the internet more popular.   :)  Don't be surprised when you see me posting this up in a few more locations around the forum, I don't want anyone to miss out because they don't look at this thread!   ;)

Enjoy!...

Thanks for fixing that pic Heffay.  I did some more work on my pics.  Lets see if this works!

Photo of GZ looking at the VLA installation.  The VLA (Very Large Array) is located just east of Datil, NM and is field full of "dishes" pointed into the heavens.  My understanding is that they are there strictly to search for any "signal" from other extra "terrestrials".  No wonder GZ was interested!

The second photo is Justin and I doing the hand-off at Tatum, NM.

So Justin had zilla and was on his way to the Austin area.

 Friday, April 6th:

The Dallas guys, Joe and Rick, made it to the Austin area by 1pm and I met them at the campground by 2. I've admired Joe's 550 since I saw it last year and chose to ride my 550 for the ride today.
We cruised the twisty roads around Lago Vista for a short while and stopped for a beer and a sandwich.
We then headed to West Austin to meet up with the Houston riders and when we pulled in to Smokey J's BBQ, Tom, Chris and Robin were there waiting on us! There were six of us at this point, although Chris was on his Ducati and Robin on her Kaw.

We talked for a bit and then it was time to ride. I chose one of my favorite roads in the area, infamous Lime Creek Road.
I lead the pack with Joe following closely behind. Not wanting to hold him up, I hammered on the throttle out of every turn we went through! Both our bike's motors are stock, except for the mufflers, and evenly matched in performance, proven earlier in the day on a rare straight road in Lago Vista.

After the 10 miles or so, this great road ended and we turned off. My throttle started feeling very odd and then the tube broke!

So, we all pull over and are mystified by this unusual break down. First suggestion was to leave the bike and go get a truck to pick it up. I really didn't like that idea and then thought I could turn the idle screw all the way up and hobble it back, worth a try I thought.
I was able to do it but the bike would slow to 35 mph on the uphills and soar to 70 going down!

Went back to the campground for some libations and then to Maria's Bar & Grill for some great margaritas and Tex Mex food. All in all, a great day!

Heff, that's a great looking 350 four!  I got the handoff from Proto in Tatum, NM, and I rode the 95 miles home.  I rented out my spare bedroom to GZ until Friday.  This is where my story gets interesting.  I had wanted to leave my home Thursday morning, but due to work left my home Friday at 7:30 pm for 9 hours of straight riding and 380 miles!  I had to really suck it up and just get er done because Steve and the other guys were counting on me to hand off to them at 11 am Sat morning!  I had a really great and pleasant night ride with no problems.  I had a blast, which is surprising because I don't usually like night riding!  I checked into my motel in Marble Falls, TX at 4 am and handed off in the motel parking lot to Tom at 11 am.  I stuck around though and road those great twisty, hilly roads (approximately 175 miles worth) with the Texas sohc guys.  Then we all camped together.  All of us guys just had a blast!  Steve took us riding down some really good roads!  On Sunday we broke camp, and everyone headed home.  My 415 mile ride home went very well except for the one hour I had to ride in pouring rain which really wasn't a bad experience because I put on my rain suit just before the rain started.  Total relay miles for me this year was 1,065 miles.  I am an official member of the "1,000 MILE IRON ASS CLUB" two years in a row now!  Last year, I said it but I will say it again, "Thank you Mr. Honda for making such a great bike!"  For two years in a row on the relay my bike has run like a racehorse and consistently gotten 40+ miles per gallon.  75 mph down Texas I-20 was no problem even with some wind and a lot of heavy camping gear.  The strength and reliability of a cb 750 just keeps on amazing me!  My forty year old bike hasn't even stumbled once during it's two years in the relay!  Kinda funny, but at one gas station I gassed up and hit the starter, she roared to life as usual in well less than one second.  The guy beside me at the next pump was done gassing when I was.  He was riding an almost new looking goldwing.  I smiled to myself, after he mounted his ride and cranked for what seemed to be like 2 minutes until the wing finally came to life!  Gee, a 40 year old Honda and an almost new Honda, never would have guessed who would start easier! ;D  See everybody next year!

Ride report:

I carried GZ from Breaux Bridge to Walker, LA for a total of 88.2 miles after hitting the back roads and taking a detour through Port Vincent to visit Fred's River Bar.

I am glad to report that the rain held off and the overcast made for a nice cool ride, however the winds were whipping.

Also, to prevent GZ from spreading rumors about crazy women drivers, I stayed in the slow lane and drafted behind an 18 wheeler for the majority of the interstate ride.

No mechanical issues to report.  Looking forward to the ride to McComb, MS, but will probably bring GZ to take pictures in downtown Baton Rouge near the Mississippi River Bridge before he is due to arrive in McComb.

You guys might appreciate that GZ is enjoying a spa day and that he got the road grime and grease off from him:

Hopefully GZ rested soundly with Cody in McComb.  I handed off in McComb, MS yesterday.

Ride report:

It was a warm, sunny afternoon with plenty of wind.  There was not a lot of traffic and no mechanical problems.  GZ rode with me for about 220 miles total.  I drove at total of about 400 miles since I parted my house to go get him until the time I got home.  All of which were gremlin-free, rain-free, and accident free.

Kpier883 (Kirk) on an 80 CBX, Joe Evers on a 2002 Yamaha Venture, and I on my 77 CB750F left Birmingham at 7:00 AM Sunday, May 22, and took 2 lane roads south to Grove Hill, AL.  We turned west at Grove Hill towards Laurel, MS.  Kirk ran out of gas in Laurel, 2 blocks from a station, luckily.  He leaned the CBX over and sloshed enough gas to the other side to make it to the gas station.  Then another 70  miles west to meet Cody at the Pizza Inn in Monticello, MS.  We were going to ride to Red Bluff with him, but didn't have enough time, so we headed back toward Birmingham.  The trip back was uneventful, except for running into a fresh hatch of may flies going by a catfish farm.  We had to stop and clean our face shields so we could see.  We got back to Birmingham about 9:30, tired and dehydrated, ready for a cold one or two.

Total miles:  643
GZ miles:      320

GZ has spent a quiet week in my basement, next to his new friend Opus.  Tomorrow he's going to Barbers to meet the Georgia contingent.

Left to right, Kpier883, J4hfr34k, jtb, Joe Evers (kickstand)

SOHC4's are my favorite, but...  Daddy wants the C...   B...   X!!!!!
