Is that pipe stuffed with something or just the ends blocked off?
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

this time I put the studs on my head and it made it much easier to torque down for a nice seal.Sure there are a few rough spots, but I knew exactly what I was getting,I have no complaints, but then again I havent really got on the highway and opened her up.

You'll be ok mate, that pipe won't fall apart, does it have a baffle? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Lossa engineering has a Yoshi 4-1 replica in stainless steel to CB750 and CB550. No issues with coating. If it touch the ground just grind and polish it!
http://www.lossaengineering.com/shop/honda-cb550-cb750-yoshimira-replica-exhaust/

If I had money to spend I should order one now. Just $450 in stainless steel.
$600x1,3 for me. Shipment to Sweden and tip to the government.

I saw that carpy was selling the yosi replica pipes now for $300 I felt bad I had bought the lossa pipes for 450, but after seeing these pipes up close they look a little "rushed"

And yes with all of the yosi 4 into 1 replicas on a 550 you need to remove the pipes to change the oil, not really a big deal once they have been on the bike for a year
I debating on wether or not to have mine powder coated $125 choice of 6 colors, not sure if I'm overdoing it, but who knows

You probably got my black exhaust! I ordered on Mar 12th requesting black (as it was listed as a request option), a few days later asked for shipping info. Told by Carpy that he only has raw in stock, Black will be another week. Two more weeks of the same response I finally called his shop, he now says the coater has gone out of business and he is only selling raw. He immediately changed his website to reflect this.

I asked him to ship raw asap as I have been waiting  for weeks thinking I was getting black. Here we are today, no shipping update.

Same thing happened to me, his site said $300 for black, another $50~$100 for chrome, I opted for the flat black coating and three week later I got raw!  Went to his site and of course it's been changed to note that only raw will be sold... Thought I had lost my mind.

In other news, I am not happy with the condition.  It is in no condition to be coated in its current state.  Burrs everywhere, weld look like trash, there are grind marks EVERYWHERE and there are gashes in the tubing...all in all I'm not too pleased.  I did a dry fit earlier as well, It's going to be some work to mount this sucker to the head.

Cell phone pictures so you'll have to excuse that, but I don't know if its worth the effort to clean this thing up and coat it myself :P

Yep.  Considering the cost of a kerker, this is still a pretty good deal, if you have the tools and time to make it pretty enough to coat.  I thought I read on here that you could buy these direct from the mfg (not carpy) for cheaper?

One of these pipes is still on my list, especially at that price-  Should be an effective enough header, and it will look pretty enough by the time I'm done cleaning it up. :)

Yes chris at motogpwerks was making them
I have the last stainless one he made.

There was and "issue" some vocal members had with him and i think he views the market now as not worth the time.....
Shame really....

But really under $500 its not going to be OEM perfect

Honestly the price you pay for exhausts is all labor unless you get titanium, which these exhausts obviously arent.  For $300 the quality should be pretty good, at least nice enough to not have to say "you get what you pay for".

Someone over on caferacer.net said something about the original manufacturer of these was a former yoshi employee, and that the deal with him eventually went sour and so another (and current) producer was found.  Does anyone have anything to support this?

All in all I'm not too pissed about this as it is only $300 for a working exhaust.

might have been me over on CR.net

From what i understand of the story was carpy hired chris, a former yoshi employe, to make the pipes but then they parted ways
chris still made a few and tried to sell on ebay and directly here, but some didnt like the fit or wanted them cheap.
chris had his plate full with other things and kinda stopped working with the SOHC guys here.  I think that someone on here had and AMAZING 4-4 ser up built for his 550 by chris.....but it wasnt a $300 pipe.
I dont know who is making the carpy or yami pipes now

maybe different areas think of labor in different ways.  in NYC its not hard to to find people that want and get $100, i see more then 3 hours labor in a 4-1 pipe

I'm curious as well on the powder coating of the exhausts?? I got mine from carpy .. he said he only had a few black ones and the rest were steel... Needs to be powdered or whatever you wanted to do.  If someone powdered the exhaust would heat play a big factor in the future of the color?? I wouldn't mind a baron red exhaust on my 550.  I did note the paint wasn't the greatest by the headers..seemed to scrape a bit while I was trying to install it. It was a slight bit of work but it fit fine. Heres a couple pics of it

My experience with exhaust coatings is you can get it in two colors black or silver. I use a type of CERAMIC coating on turbo set ups and then heat wrap it as well. In the diesel word its not uncommon to see EGT'S hit 1600 to 1800 degrees and the stuff holds up well to the abuse. I have seen many variations of this proses used hear as well.

So, I have had the Lossa pipes on my bike for about 10 months and so far I am happy. There was experiment in the beggining to find the proper jetting and air filter, but there are 100's of threads on that here.

The seem like they are a higher quality than Carpy's The only thing that i am not a big fan of is the way they are turning copper. Thats why i am looking at powder coating them.

Here is a link to the high temp ceramic coating i am using.

That's because it is stainless, every stainless pipe I have used has turned that gold color over time from heat.

So I just sent my pipes off for the high temp coating, I went with a satin finish, the guys told me don't go with black because it scratches easily and stains.

While the exhaust if off I am doing the obvious changing the oil, but my exhaust studs are old rusty and slightly bent. I am reading posts here about replacing them, and I used my impact driver and got them out no problem, the question is what do I use to replace them. My first choice was chrome allen bolts,so far I had used them om the bike to replace several parts, but reading this thread I'm thinking I should stay with studs.

Is chrome a bad idea?

I got mine today.  They are what I expected.  I tried to find another exhaust with the same alignment and I couldn't.  I also like the sound of the Carpy exhaust.  I took them to a muffler shop and they were impressed that they were mandrel bent and the welds were tight.  Sure they could have been polished or stainless or whatever, but I paid $300 to my door and I think it was a good deal.

Its good,I may build another baffle to see how much difference it will make, but otherwise It makes the bike get up and go and its got a nice growl, its not too pretty but it performs, and it was worth $300.I put a freshly oiled K&N filter in the original airbox, lifted the needle a bit,110's.There is a bit of a flat spot 4500-5000,but I've dealt with that before and can usually tune it to almost get rid of it.
