Just a thought on electrolosis
« on: March 30, 2012, 03:06:11 AM »
I was just thinking, if you can use electrolosis to remove rust from a fuel tank, why can't you use it to galvanise the inside of your tank, I was thinking of getting some annodes like I use on my boat to prevent corrosion, melting them down and making rods out of them then placing these in the tank to coat the inside of the tank with zinc.  Is there any reason why this won't work.

It can be done I suppose however from what I understand the process is much more involved than simply using a zinc anode and switching the terminals on the battery charger. Hopefully someone here with experience with plating can explain it better.

No it wont work like that. Youtube it. You need to make a solution out of the zinc. It requires acid and seems quite involved or else I would have done it.
