Spark Plug Fun
« on: April 06, 2012, 11:47:41 PM »
Hey Guys,

Have a question about spark plugs.  I notice that there seem to be two kinds, ones with screw tops, and others with plug tops.  Is there a difference in connecting the two?  I pulled a plug wire off my bike tonight out of curiosity without turning it and it came off, but I noticed there was a screw top on the plug, which makes me think that the spark plug is wrong for the wire, or the wire connector is stripped (I didn't use too much force when removing the wire).

PS, never owned a gas motor before, bicycles don't have spark plugs.

Welcome junkyalleycat.  Your plugs are fine.  The little top comes off of the plug to accommodate different types of plug wires.

Welcome junkalleycat. What part of Seattle are you from?

Just to take the plug/cap thing a bit further, your plug wire caps can screw of and on. One bit of advice from the board is to unscrew your caps from the plug wires, cut about 1/8 - 1/4" off the end of the plug wire and screw the caps back on. This makes sure that you have a good connection and spark after years of riding or neglect.
