GL1000 Goldwing vs. Cb750

I've had my eye on the early 75-77 goldwings because of their reputation as great long distance bikes.  I wanted others to chime in who have ridden both and whether it's worth it to get a gl1000 or just ad a vetter fairing and some bags to my k1 and achieve similar results.  I would assume the goldwing is much better bike for distance riding but would suffer in other areas where the cb750 excels.

What don't you think it can't do that you 750 can?

I have a 75,76,77,and a 84 1200.

I road my 75 naked to Billings few years back. If I'm taking a trip I put on a windscreen. My fused neck sometimes can't take it.
took the 84 to Crater lake that is a nice ride. Air ride.
I might take the 75 to Lassen park this year.

Does the GL1000 weigh much more than the CB750K ?

Does the GL1000 weigh much more than the CB750K ?

Wikipedia states the GL1000 weighed 590 lbs dry, vs. the CB750's 491 lbs wet.  Not sure about the horsepower rating on the 'Wings tho.

Having ridden All the GL's up to the GL1500 I can say they carry they're weight very well..down low along with their Torque curves;an easy bike to maintain also.

80 hp on the 75-77 wings.
Like said before super easy to work on.
Was the second fastest bike in 75. Only thing faster was the KZ1000.
If you want a rolling couch try and find a cheap 1500.

The GL1000 has a lot better ride and more comfortable seat than your K1. And because it's heavier, it holds the road a lot better in gusty winds. The '75 through '77 had more sporting performance than later models, provided the rider uses the available rpm range. As for suffering where the 750 excels, it's not so much the arrow as the Indian. A guy who knows how to ride the machine can spank a 750 pretty good with an early GL1000.

Honestly I've owned and ridden both and it's pretty much a toss up.  I guess I would give the edge to the Goldwing, but only because I'm a Goldwinger at heart.  Both machines are very capable of either role, performance or touring.  It all depends on how you set them up and how you ride them.

I've ridden both and the Wing felt it and maintained Hi-way speed  with less vibrations felt in the bars. The Wing also seemed to carry a Vetter Fairing and hard bags with less stress on the engine!

You CAN mount air ride from a CB900C(82-84) on the rear of the wing also to give it a more adjustable ride.

If it were my choice for LONG rides, I would choose the WING.

Thanks for the answers.  I'm just curious whether I can wip around the wing (in the city) as well as the cb considering it's much heavier.  It was meantioned that they're very easy to work on.  Are they as easy as the cb's?

The Wheelbase may be a little longer on the GL compared to the CB which will make it turn a little slower at parking lot speeds..possibly.I think there is a lot less maintenance to perform on the GL and once it'set up right(the alternator needs to be tested..sometimes the Stator windings will have issues)it keeps tune for a long time.

touring?...maybe 1/4 mile at a time...not mine, saw at VJMC meeting, didn't get to talk to the owner.

I can do a steering lock to steering lock figure 8 (just about)  ;D in a parking lot.
No trouble in town I ride mine everyday.
It has such a low center of gravity it feels like a 500 when riding but pushing it up a inclined driveway you know its a Wing.

Agreed.  My Goldwings have always moved around pretty well, even my dressed '81.
