I'll be there, Jerry. And yeah, it's this weekend. I'm not sure about the route. I know it's a "different, more complicated" route this year;). I assume though it'll be peak to peak.

So the plan looks like I'll meet up with Wes on Friday evening, if that works for you, Wes. Where are you staying?

And then I'll head out on Saturday for Craig. I'm looking at being back Sunday afternoon so a one night stay is an order.  Anyone interested?

I'm going to start making plans for our trip to CO on the 24th-25th, not sure where to meet you yet. ideas? heck we might even ride with you part or all of the way to Craig, no promises since we will have to see how we feel after our long ride from Lincoln to Denver  :P

Hows the ride from Denver to Craig by the way? I was hoping to get some scenic mountain riding that weekend.

It would be great to have you guys!

What is your route to Denver? And what time? That will really affect where to meet. Not only do I work(hopefully) but traffic could be a major PIA.

Should be great. Jerry is talking about trail ridge rd which I've never been on. It's got a few spots that are 12,000+ ft., if I'm not mistaken. Plenty of mountains on the way to Craig.

NEVER been on Trail Ridge Road?! Deeewwwd! WTF! As good as it gets.

Trail Ridge Road is one of the few complete routes through the Colorado Rockies. The eastern entrance is in the beautiful mountain town of Estes Park and exits west at Grand Lake. It snakes and winds it way through georgeous Rocky Mountain National Park and, yes, it's Apex (sorry, couldn't resist) you're Seeking is at 12,000+ feet. We would hope for warm sunny weather in Estes because we want sun dried roads up high. Yes, there will be plenty of snow up there but it has opened 2+ weeks early this year. 3rd earliest opening ever due to warmth and lack of precipitation. Yes, it will be cold up top but that only lasts so long then you head back down. Watch for for the amazingly large elk herds. The visitor center near the summit is not open currently as they are working to remove snow from the parking lot. If you ride across you either come back the same way or loop down to I-70.

Wes, that's my synopsis. IF we go that way you'll not forget it! I've had my 75 CB750F on it twice. First time in spring '79 about this time of the year. It was not open completely so only got to ride so far. I remembered striaght up snow bank cuts on the road maybe 20' tall in places it seemed. Last time was maybe 4 years ago with Heffay, Paul (?), Gordon, et al.

wow Jerry, I'm sold on the Trail Ridge Road ride I just hope my bike is up to the task... she turns 40 this year you know :D. It shouldn't be too difficult to convince my travel partners,  Decepitbong and his GF to go too.

Do you guys know who is planning to ride Trail Ridge Road to Craig so far? We're looking to do some camping in Colorado that weekend, anyone plan to camp on the way to Craig?

This is ALL up to Apex (he is also known as Craig vs the city of Craig so as to not confuse with names) as he is the one with the SOHC4 on this ride. Your bike will be fine as long as you make it this far! If it starts choking at altitude you just ride in a lower gear and keep the rpms up some to keep it firing more to keep the plugs clean. If CB650 wants to go then Apex wouldn't get to leave until Sunday and I would just ride Sunday.

Camping will be pretty chilly at night! Keep that in mind. It's been in the upper 30's/lower 40's at night in Colorado Springs at 7,000' elevation. I can help with map stuff after work. Have you looked into any locations yet? Its kinda flat after RMNP until shortly before you get to Steamboat Springs then Craig. Head south off of US40 then the elevation relief begins again.

I'm down with trail ridge rd. Jerry, if you want to plan a route, have at it. Like I said, I've never been on trail ridge so that would be a little easier for you to figure out. But I can if you don't want to. I was planning on staying the night somewhere along the trip but I didn't think about camping. That sounds cold. A cheap hotel and a bed sound nice.

I'm all about a cheap motel! One route across then straight to Steamboat/Craig on US40. We just have to meet up somewhere. Let's see what Wes is initially planning and go from there. You guys will probably meet up Fri PM and I'll head up Sat AM.

You're 1 more than we had last year  ;)

The other Utah guy had just posted last night that he found out or took care of his bike's problem so I asked if that meant he was riding with you and GZ but I lost track of the info.  ::)

Coke, That will be fine. Come on by the house and we will head out from there. Called Zeek and said we may be running late. He will be in Cushing about 3:30pm and said he would grab a bite and wait on us.

Hey I got some awesome news today... I called the Kansas Motorcycle Museum to make sure they were open this Saturday when we stop by and LaVona who runs the museum told me that this Saturday is the annual Bike Rally! I checked into it and its a big deal. What are the chances of that? well looks like were going to have to make a day of it now ;D Maybe we could enter our Hondas in the bike show and represent the SOHC4  ::)

Well...the rear master cylinder I received isn't going to be useable. I'm still looking but it's getting to be crunch time...if I don't get one soon I may have to wait another year.

That ride out of Denver sounds awesome...I've been up there in the subie...but never on the bike. Heck...I haven't left the metro area on the bike yet ;)

I'll keep you guys posted ...if I don't get to hook up on this one hopefully some of you will be up for some rides through the summer.

When will you guys be coming thru KS?  Might be able to head out to Marquette then swing back to KC.  I've got a small time frame open on Fri & Sat.  My CB is in pieces still but would be able to take pictures, if you'd like.

Hey Proto, I'd like to meet up and ride with you for the west side of Colorado, Wyo and to the handoff in SLC. My ride is technically a DOHC so I can't carry GZ but I really enjoyed the ride along last year so I'll try to keep abreast of developments on this thread.

Taxi , westondc - My game plan is to ride out to Marquette on Sat, meet up with you guys, take some pics, take a walk through the museum, then head back to KC.  Will be neat to see GZ again (hopefully he won't get busted this time).  I'd do more riding if I could, but need to hear back from the g/f and go from there.

BTW - There's actually two motorcycle museums in Marquette;  One is the KS m/c museum and the other is a british m/c museum/shop.  I've never been done there when the Thunder Rally was going on, but can imagine it will make Marquette's main street busy, as well as the local cafe.  Parking might be a #$%*! Marquette is a really small town - but it's claim to fame is that there's four museums (Two m/c, one railroad...I forget what the other one is...) within one small area.  If the local cafe is overwhelmed, there's a good restaurant in Lindsborg called the Swedish Crown, not too far away.   There's also good places to eat in Salina if all else fails.
