Misalanious steel ball???
« on: June 08, 2006, 06:05:57 PM »
Hello I have a 78CB550 and I planed on replacing my woren clutch this this afternoon. Well everything went well I replaced the steel and friction plates and added four new springs. As I was installing everything back together I noticed a little steel ball laying in the clutch cover. Now this steel ball is similar in size to the "clutch lifter rod" which has round balls on either end, but I have no clue to where this steel ball goes??? I'm read my Clymer manual, but still haven't figured this out, and I tried installing the clutch with out it, but theres way to much play in the cable? Has anyone installed a clutch on a cb550 and might know where this steel ball goes to get my baby back on the road?

Does your clutch lifter rod have the balls intact on each end?

Hmmm, I'm not sure, but it kinda does look like the clutch lifter arm - #11 - does has two little balls showing at either end.  Kinda fuzzy picture though.  As I've never torn into my clutch, I can't help you much more.

Thanks!  My copy - downloaded - was kinda fuzzy and printed like crap.  These seem like they'll work out great.
