My hubs is from a 1974 750K. My wheel is is from a 1975 GL1000. From what I have read the 77/78 750K 17" wheel is identical to the GL wheel that I have except that the K wheel is steel and the GL wheel is aluminum. Regardless I have informed them of exactly what I have.
I just got off the phone with Angel and he tells me that there is no way the spokes will bottom out in the nipple and that once the nipple gets past the threads it will fall right through. It sounded strange to me so I tested it with an uninstalled spoke and nipple. As I thought it bottomed out.
I was trying to lace the wheels with just the outside spokes when he called. I got the same results with having to press down on one side to get them in the wheel dimples. With just the outside spokes on the hub is pretty much centered on the wheel. However, the spokes don't protrude the same distance through the wheel. The drive side nipples barely touch the inside of the wheel yet the brake side are almost touching the dimples on the inside of the wheel. (last pic)
Angel mentioned something to the effect that if for some reason I can't get the wheel to lace up correctly that I could send it to them and they would do it at a special rate. I fear it may come down to that, but if it does I will talk with Kennie (VP) again and see what kind of deal they are willing to work out. I figure it will set me back somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 to send them my wheel & hub. So my $270 spokes will now cost me $325 (I spent $5 sending back the first set of spokes).
