Topic: Crank Bearings

A Newbie here,

Can someone tell me if my 79' CB750 has plane or ball bearing, or roller bearings in the crankshaft? I have a bad growling from the right side. Looking at the Parts Fiche I can't really tell. It would be nice to know ahead of tear down time what I'm getting into. I've split plenty of cases, not 750's though.

I have a few manuals to share if there is a place to upload them here.

Crankshaft is all plane bearings, transmission uses ball bearings.  Right side of engine I would check into the clutch.

Growling noise, huh?
The crank is all plain bearings. Failed crank bearings sound more like a jackhammer has gotten in the engine.
The primary shaft drives the clutch by gear, and I've had an engine with bad gear end bearings on the primary shaft that definitely "growled".

Keep your speed constant but put it in different gears. Noise cahnges with different gears = tranny maybe?

 It is hard to tell if it from the crank or clutch. It sounds like a bad ball bearing as opposed to a rod knock (plain bearings).

If I can sell 2 project bikes I have I will be getting into the 750 soon.
