Sold the 550k, a little sad
« on: May 02, 2012, 10:00:42 am »
So i was riding home from work last week and i stopped for gas and my bike attracted allot of attention. I have had the idea of owning a new Triumph Thruxton in my head for years, work has been great and I have extra cash, so i figured if i could sell the bike and at least break even on purchase price and parts ill go for the Thruxton. I listed the bike on eBay Last week, I had over 1700 views and 45 watchers. It sold. The buyer picked it up on Monday and i put a deposit on an incoming thruxton. I get the new bike in two weeks, it was an incoming unit.

I do miss the CB550 it was a quick decision to part with it. I finally had it running good, and i loved the way it rode with the new progressive shocks.

Now that i know what i can and cant do with a SOHC I am on the hunt for a CB750. I am not going to turn this one into a cafe racer, just keep it stock and add the corbin seat(it always irked me that i could not get the corbin seat for a 550). The problem is the prices for a decent 750 are out of control. There is one in my area OK body with broken fins on the engine for 2200. I am going to be patient keep checking craigslist and eBay for the right bike.

But I'm not going to lie, I miss the 550, i keep looking for it in the garage.

I love my 550, but sometimes I dream of a modern classic like the Thruxton. The charm and nostalgia of working on old bikes ain't always what it seems. Often it's fun and rewarding, but not always. :)

I had a 550 and sold it too. Missed it as well, even after buying a 750. So I bought another! Spring is not the best time to score good bike deals, everyone has bike fever.  Keep looking...

Just got a 76 550 about a month ago, my first motorcycle.  A couple of weeks after I sent the owner a question about the bike, and in his response he mentioned to let him know if I wanted to sell the bike back, as he already missed it and regretted parting with it.

An important lesson to myself I guess to never let it go  :)
