Transformation and on the road again
« on: May 13, 2012, 04:58:20 AM »
This is what my oldest son's '73 750k looked like the day he drug it out of my Uncle's pole barn a year and a half ago after setting for 20+ years ......

and this is what it looks like today.

It got on the road again for the first time yesterday and it immediately started drawing attention from other riders the moment it hit the streets. Around here it's nothing but late model cruisers or crotch rockets so it definitely sets itself apart. I put about 80 miles on it yesterday and it still needs some "bugs" worked out but it's rideable. My main concern is making it safe to ride so I'm going to let my kid deal with the cosmetic details to make it look really sweet. Thanks to all on this site for the invaluable info needed for me to get this bike on the road again.

Wow! What a difference! Looks killer with that Super Sport tank! Great job!
The darn fool didn't know it couldn't be done...so he went ahead and did it anyway.

Yep it had factory paint but my kid who was paying for it had the final call. He wanted some what of a cafe look to it so he got a seat off an 77F which we quickly found out wouldn't work with the original tank so he traded the original tank for the F tank. It took some work to get the F seat to work on the frame because it not only has different hinges but hinges from the left side where the original seat hinged from the right plus had to move the seat lock from the left side to the right. My kid wanted to go further like put forks from a cbr on it and other mods but that's when I stepped in and said "leave it alone". I told him that as far as any future long term plans he may have that instead of making more major changes, consider restoring it back to '73 specs such as correct tank and seat.

The Kerker exhaust is loud and obnoxious but it does sound sweet, just a little too loud for me though.

Curious to what you paid for it or was it a hand me down from a family member?

$500 which I thought was a bit much but my cousin thought the windjammer fairing had value but around here it didn't and ended up having to give the faring away just to get it out of my garage and my kid had to sell his sweet 71 cb350 twin in order to fund the project. I've been riding it lately working all the bugs out of it which now consists of electrical gremlins but so far other than that it runs strong and has already drawn a lot of attention from local riders.

OH &*(&^^%^%... I would have given you a few hundred more with the fairing. SHoot, I would have found you a complete running super sport 750 for a trade. Oh well. Enjoy the bike and it's always good to hear father son builds.

Well at least I talked him into using the stock air box rather than pods. :)
