they have 2, 3 , or 4 flutes, and sometimes more cut into then, this is where the chip goues when cutting the thread in the first place. Grease the tap, run it in, debris should stasy in the grease..
Tap will only cut more if tap is bigger than original, entering at wrong anlgle or being thrust sideways,or if it encounters a bruised area..which it will clean up. If you use a tap of a different class of fit , then it may shave a slihght bit off,
Genearlly cheap taps are a poor class of fit. What did you mean by expensive? 12-40 bux is the norm.. how much are your cases worth if you ruin the stud holes ?
