Big Ben got his bell rang...
« on: June 12, 2006, 02:45:20 PM »
Die hard Steeler's fan here; I hate helmet laws and there's none in Ohio, but I always wear mine, unless I'm out where there's no cars, birds, rocks, bad pavement, flat tires, you get the idea.  He ate up a car door in dahntahn and it's a crying shame that accidents happen.  I hope he's ok.  Who else loves their helmet?

I love my full-face with lift chin-bar. Makes it easier to put on sunglasses or stopping for fuel....no need to take helmet off.
Also, to many years working trauma as a nurse... helmets work!

Another die hard Steeler fan, but I would not ride without my full-face.

Might sound dumb but I almost always ride with my lid. full-face with the chin lift. I like it quite a bit. I got a silver one which makes me quite visible along with reflecting some heat from the sun! Sometimes I dont wear it but thats pretty rare.

I wear mine all the time unless I'm working on my bike and just taking it for a test spin around the block.

I was less surprised about the lack of helmet when I found out he was on a busa, his first bike nonetheless.  Not very bright.

That reminds me, when I was buying the paint for my latest paint job, I saw this reflective clear-coat in a rattle can.  Thought that might be kind of a cool idea for a tank and side cover painting.  Anybody ever tried this stuff?

Easier to get a new helmet ,than
a new face , bet he'll wear one if there's a next time..
On the reflective clear coat paint, a lot of guy's
out here are using it on their liscence plates....
when they go thru one of those highway {speed/stoplight} camera's
with the flash , the number plate shows up blank.........
         thought that one was interesting.......
State of Ct . is real pissed over it. after it made the newspaper,
people are using it on cars...............

Well, he is a young, dumb, and full of bravado.  I am an educator and I deal with young kids and young adults daily, they all think that they are invincible.  I am 34 years old and I remember how I felt when I was 24.  Ben is 24 years old and a mulit-millionare who just helped his team win the NFL Championship... nothing can touch him... guess what Ben you are lucky to be alive!  I have seen first hand what a head injury can do to someone's life.  Now all of our motorcycle insurance WILL GO UP JUST A LITTLE MORE.

Wear a helmet please... not for me, but for your family.

Well it could have happened on a harley, duster, but what harley does 200 off the showroom floor? I think the point is that he was riding a bike he was not experienced enough for and that could have contributed to his accident. He was probably showing off having an ego trip on a bike that was just too much for him.

I have a very high quality helmet which is very comfortable, I hate to wear it, but always do.  There are too many variables that are out of your control.  Look at what happened to Lawrence Grodsky.  If anything will save your ass in a motorcycle accident, it is a helmet.  Full face is that much better.

I knew a girl in high school.  Her Mom went out for a bicycle ride, skidded on some sand on a residential street, and fell off the bike at 10-15 mph, and hit her head on the asphault, and was dead before they could call 911.  Its that easy.

Wear your helmet.

Die hard Steerler fan here too.  You summed it up.  I wear a full dome because I kissed a car 6 years ago in much the same way and had the same facial damage (9.5 h surgery).  I had a shorty on, no damage where the helmet protected.

Maybe he'll become a spokesman for Shoei or something.

A pertinent quote: "What I say about motorcycles is that concrete is undefeated," Joey Porter said to Ben last season.

He'll heal OK.  He might not be able to eat a steak for a while and not sure how he'll feel about getting hit on the grid iron in a few months.

eldar,i agree he probably shouldnt have been on that busa, but i havent heard if he was speeding or otherwise riding recklessly and your generalization of that is wrong.

Talking circles around the helmet issue is kind of a mute point....  There will always be those that feel that they will never go down, that they are invincible....  nor, can anyone try to tell them what to do....  I know I'll never get on anything with two wheels and an engine withiout a lid, let the others kill themselves if they want to....  I have a son to think about

I thought the newspaper headline was "Big Ben Got Clocked"...

Glad he's ok, but the whole situation seemed really dumb. It begs the question: would he play football without a helmet?

good point. of course not. i mean, heck, that would be stupid, right? you might get hurt...

from what i have read - eyewitness accounts say he did NOT appear to be speeding...back in October when i got tagged by the lefty, the one witness claimed i WAS speeding - i was on a 350.

my point? most people can't reliably judge speed by sight alone...
