Headlight Swap to HID Xenon Light - Advice? Warnings?
« on: May 17, 2012, 08:09:25 AM »
I'm interested in swapping the stock headlight in my '71 CB500 with a HID kit.

Has anyone done this?

Any recommendations for a vendor or kit to use?

Any warnings or other free advice?

thanks.

thanks.
I tried the search "feature" which did not return any results.
I searched for headlight, hid, xenon, etc...

"HID" resulted in many threads, including this one  http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=67320.0

Search for HID in the tech forum, from what people say the 35watt HID kit is they way to go so you can get the wattage savings over a 50/60 watt setup. You will lose the high beam though and you do need to use a projector despite what people will say otherwise.

damned search boxes!

Do NOT try to use the one in the upper right (unless it's fixed). Use the Google custom search box. It's not a web based search.

Initial current draw is much higher than with the stock lamp or
Halogen lamp when first started. Once running hid draws less current than stock or halogen. To save your light switch a relay in the headlamp housing that switches the headlight is a good idea.
