Bolt on/clamp on kickstand?
« on: May 18, 2012, 05:26:44 AM »
A while back, I built a KZ250 cafe' racer. The bike was free and I was bored, so....

I cut off the stck kickstand mount because I THOUGHT the rear set linkage, etc. would interfere with it. Turns out it probably would have been OK.
The bike weighs less than 250 lbs. and isn't that hard for me to get on the centerstand (I had to trim about an inch off the bracket you put your foot on to push down the centerstand), but I'm considering selling the bike and would like to have a kick stand on it.

What are my options? With a bike this light, would a bicycle kick stand work? I've seen a few motorcycle kick stands that bolt on or clamp to the frame rail, but they're usually Harley or chopper stuff and expen$ive. Thoughts?

i think itll work, you might want to pin the clamp to the frame so it cant spin/slip and it will look ever so much more cafe at the same time, some might even think its some kind of a racing side stand,i wouldnt bother its got the centre stand.

First off, the bike looks real nice. if you are selling it, why bother? That is a little unusual, alotbof lose the center stand, not the side stand.

Most bolt ons wont just bolt on, need pin, or weld or a brace... bike looks good..

This is the Brown side stand that is a bolt on for r series Beemers. Perhaps it can be made to work in your situation?
