Recently recieved new fork tubes from franks for my 74 CB550 and found they are about an 1/8 in. longer than org. and the groove on outside is in different location. Is this going to cause an issue when I reassemble?

You should be ok. I used shorty 750 forks from cycle x and the looked different than stock, just like yours do. And everything worked out fine.
