Good cam sprocket bolts for the CB...
« on: May 20, 2012, 06:35:42 PM »
For anybody using an adjustable cam sprocket....use Yamaha FJ1200 cam sprocket bolt  # 90105-07004-00. It has a machined neck and a flange that give far better purchase on the sprocket. Reveling ALL my secrets. ::) ;D I haven't tried it on the 550 but it may work there too.

Yeah, thanks. I know the stock stuff holds, but it sure doesn't feel good with only a couple of corners of the hex actually touching the sprocket, with the slot in it. A flange would be what's ordered.

Again a good tip Mike! Thanks. I use flanged Ti bolts, same effect.
Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.

Yea good one Mike, I'll order some of those right off before they go the way of the DoDo. I think I told you I bought some from Honda and they're no damn good. There is a flange but the shoulder is short and the head is puny and rounded, damn hard to keep a wrench on. I went back to using older bolts.

That's the same part number as the cam sprocket bolt on my 03 FJR1300. Still a current model. So the bolts should be around for a while.

Set the cam timing on my 1000cc engine last night....maybe it will be in the frame this weekend (only took about 1.5 years)  ::). Those bolts are far better than the OEM bolts. Should be easy I have installed a frame kit. It is a bit different from the ones out there. Very similar to the CycleX kit but instead of flat faces mating there are V's (to increase surface area and really lock the pieces together). I believe there are more sets available if anybody is interested.
Anyway...got the 2 sons to help with it. About time they earn their keep! ;D

MR: You know I'm joking, I'm into mine 4 years now. Not counting the time spent a decade ago collecting parts.

Mike you have way to many little tips and secrets stored in your brain that need to be shared. You need to do a "The thoughts of MReick" thread similiar to "The Thoughts of HondaMan" thread in the FAQ.

Thanks for another great tip! ;)
