Autumn ride
« on: May 22, 2012, 01:49:16 AM »
Last week I texted a few mates and sent an email around work to the riders, I was looking at the long range weather forecast and Sunday looked perfect.
My riding buddy Gary and his lady Gaylene were up for the ride and Sunday when I got to his place his Bandit was already idling in the driveway, a quick gas up and run to the neighbouring city of Hastings where I had arranged to meet any riders wanting to join us at a gas station.
I got quite a surprise to find 8 waiting there and 6 of those were fellow Corrections Officers, pulling out we were joined by another 2 prison staff and a young Police Officer.
Harley's, Honda's, Suzuki's and some new make which I cannot recall made us a good mixture with half being cruisers and half big road machines.
We took Middle road which has twisties to make your heart sing and strangely right at the end of it a 3 miles dead straight run which we all took advantage off, Gary flying past me doing at least 150, his partner grinning back at Jaffa as they blazed on past.
Lunch at the picturesque Patongata Tavern where more bikers had ridden out to lasted a few long hours as we talked #$%* and bikes and compared midlife stomaches lol.
Home the long way over a road that was more twistie with surprise elbow corners and late afternoon shadows making the road hard to pick, still we were all smiling like crazy bastards in our helmets........a perfect Sunday! :)     150 k's of New Zealand back roads, brilliant! ;D

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!
