Yeah, when I was born they didn't just give me a birth certificate but throwed in a Degree in Mechanicology cuz I already done knowed everything there is to be knowin' about, well, everything! Un-huh, right: don't EVER quit asking questions, pard, because there's just no other way to learn, hands-on or otherwise!

Someone else can answer that question better than me I'm sure! I can't imagine it needs a full rejet unless a prior owner made changes. Best way to find out is to pull all jets and see what's in there. If you've got some cleaning to do anyway then no loss for the effort, have to do it anyway. Stock jetting allows for a lot of the power that bike has to offer without going crazy so personally I'd just match up with stock and if it is stock, clean what you've got.

Hey, I am having the exact same problem. Funny thing is, I just upjetted for pod filters today, and I was having none of these issues before. I'm not super experienced, but it seems to me that would suggest some kind of mixture problem is the source? It's a 78 cb550 k3, by the way. Too tired to remember the jet size I've gone to. Any knowledge you guys could lay my way would help! Should I lean out with the needles or something?

No.  You don't have the exact same problem.  You have a problem induced by the mechanic and have a different carb set, as well.

The op's bike has a different issue.  Most likely cleaning (emulsion tubes) or damage related the carbs.  I might even question a bent valve valve or two from earlier engine work.  I'd like to see a comp test or a leak down test to eliminate valve issues.  The symptoms might even be related spark plug fouling.

But, I'm thinking you hijacked the thread.

Fair enough. What I meant was that I have the exact same symptoms. Different cab, true, etc., true. I'm pretty sure that it has something to do with the jetting, as the only thing I did was replace the jets and it was running fine (if a little lean) before. Pod filters are a #$%*, I guess. I'll check the plugs.
