Anyone have experience building headers?
« on: May 30, 2012, 11:00:56 AM »
I have a 550 and I've been contemplating building headers. specifically a 4-2-1 type that would come out the right side sweep up slightly and than put something like a Kerker supertrapp on the end. Just curious if anyone knows the length of header that each cylinder wants for the best performance, or if I'd be better off just making a 4-1. thanks in advance.
That's what I'd like to hear.

according to axel its 27.5 inches from exhaust valve to collector  the secondary pipe should be 13.8 inches long , i have always found his information to be very accurate .

I think all the info there pertains to 750s.  There's calculators out there that should be able to get you in the ballpark by entering in variables like valve sizes, combustion chamber cc, etc.

for example:

4-2-1 or "Tri Y" headers are good for low end torque and give up just a little on the top end. I've built headers for drag race cars for years and am building 4-2 crossovers for CB750s right now. I plan on a race version of a 4-1 as well as a turbo manifold, Tri Y would be a good addition to my line of pipes.

I'm not far from you (Brighton) so if you want to hook up maybe we can work out the details and build some headers.
Pics of the stuff I build on FB, search Sprocketwerx Motorsports.
