wiring harness vs wiring diagram on 750k1
« on: May 31, 2012, 11:28:11 AM »
Im a little unsure about the wiring around the fuse box on my 750 K1. The wiring diagram has two wires from the starter solenoid but the actual battery cable that connects to the solenoid has three. Im wondering if the wiring diagram I have is incorrect. or was the wiring harness and battery cable updated? The wiring harness and battery cable I have are new original honda parts.
All the connectors are pretty easily matched up. My question is around the fuse box. Its the original style. According to the  wiring diagram it has the red from the harness, and red/white from the starter solenoid connected to it.
In my harness the red seams self explanatory but the only other logical connector is the other red one that comes from the starter solenoid ( in the batty cable bundle). Its not red/white like the diagram. There is a red/white from the solenoid but it is a bullet connector and has a matching female bullet that is in the wiring harness.
Im pretty sure I have them right but am wondering why there is a slight difference from the wiring diagram I have.

not sure what your actual question is, if its what to do the that green wire.  green is ground.    From what i know the diagram is correct, you may have a different year harness.

ok. maybe to clarify my question. The wiring harness in new and the  correct one for the k1 and so is the battery cable.
The question is why is there  a red and a red/white from the solenoid in the actual battery cable and only a red/white in the wiring diagram?
The green wire I know is an extra and unused ground.

Depends on the schematic you use.

Does this one help?
1978 CB750A (upgrading very, very slowly)

Past bikes - Honda: SL350, CX650C, CB900C, CB1000C, CM450A; Kawasaki: several 1972 750 H2's; Suzuki: TC90J.

Bikes I want: CX650ED, a mid-sized japanese V-twin with ABS.

ah that looks more like it. Would I be able to get a copy or the location to that schematic? and that is for the K1?
cheers

found another schematic that shows the correct wiring for me. This makes much more sense. This has been driving me crazy.

The schematic I found is from our own site:

http://www.sohc4.net/index.php/cb750-wiring-diagrams/

And yes, it is for a K1.

hmm..I followed the link, the diagram for the k1 is the same as the one I have, not like the one you showed. The plot thickens..

There are two listed - try the second one.

I'm a bit of a broken record on this, but...
All the simplified wiring diagrams out there - Haynes, Chilton, OldManHonda, the various online colour coded and animated ones... are simplified by eliminating the stuff that's complicated.
The OEM Honda wiring diagram for the exact model and year bike you have will be complete showing every electrical component, wire, fuse, switch, and connector. The switches are a bit complicated to understand at first because the line diagram only shows the wiring to the switch terminals, then it has a diagram of the switch functions separately.
For a quick idea of how the wiring works, the simplified diagrams are OK. If you are relying on one to install a new harness or doing troubleshooting on one of the circuits that's been "simplified", it isn't so good and you really should have the accurate Honda wiring diagram.

Also no one has mentioned the big black wire on the start solenoid coming from the battery. I thought black was switched power coming from the key? I do know it should be red just thought I would through that out there. Your cable is a big black wire with a red band not shown on your print. Also why are you holding that green wire? You do not show enough of the print for me to see where things are going or coming from or to.

Thanks to all that replied. I think I know now that I cant fully  rely on these web wiring diagrams. I didn't know they were simplified until I asked this question. Since then i have seen a few different ones and they are mostly but not exactly the  same.
I have the service manual, but like most it is a downloaded copy and the resolution is pretty bad and hard to read the wire colours in the diagram.
It has only been these connections around the fuse that had me confused, everything else so well colour co ordinated ( thanks honda) that im not really having a problem.
Looking at all the schematics that are in the link that kandrtech provided. Would those in the know say that this one
data.sohc4.net/WD750/CB750WiringDiag.pdf
is the oem wiring schematic. It looks like the right one for my K1 as it only has the 1 15 amp fuse.
Thanks again all.
