There seems to be a need for the CB750 crankshaft bevel drive gear. Can anybody fabricate one or more replacements or know who could?

Is the gear for the cb750 the same as the one for the KZ1000 ? I know the timing marks will be different but is it overall the same ?
Here is a picture of one i have that came out of a R.C. angle drive for a KZ1000.......

Maybe you can use a standard gear and adapt it to the end of the crank?

I think the timing marks are on the flate attached to it. I agree with Scottly that buying a stock (off the shelf gear) if one can be found can then be attached to the rest that you would have to make up..
Setting up to cut a gear, is pricey, so is low volume production..

There's the problem. The gear for the 2 distributors would have to be compared side by side

DP can probably be determined with a pitch guage, count the number of starts, dia , etc...

I know for a fact that there's quite a few units out there that need this gear part... Honda and Kawi alike. I've seen alot of the angle drives sold on ebay without this special gear. I know of a shop that has a very special CNC with two very knowledgable guys. One of them made his own special 5 speed manual transmission ! Gears and cases !

The only problem's are what will the startup cost be and will there be enough demand and what is someone willing to pay for it ?

The picture of the gear. The other gear inside of the housing is made with a shaft with an offset slot on the top to drive the distributor/ magneto. Here is a picture of the backside of a cb750 R.C. angle drive unit with the crank drive gear .

As you can see the timing mark disc is spot welded on the shaft. Look below the top finger. Maybe that means the main shaft gear is universal and different timing disc's are attached as per application. Maybe

Blue the unit that you have that attaches to the crank is all one piece?
The drive gear that I have can be removed from the mount. This might make things easier as the mount could be made on a lathe with out much effort. It really is the heli gear that is the pain. I dont really know how to measure the gear to cross it agains others. Im more then willing to help make a pattern

Use a pitch guage and count the number of starts...places that sell stock gears have that stuff.. power transmission places that carry chain, bearings, etc...
They are made by vendors like BOSTON GEAR, maybe BROWNING.. and others..
If you want them made short run, & I am not talking 2 pcs, bring Hundreds per unit.. Like I said it can probably be fastened to the other part..

Meanwhile anyone want to sell a unit missing that gear ?...let me know..

Jag, I probably miss quoted as it's been a long time since i have had that piece in my hand. Like i said earlier i need to dig mine out and take it all apart. It would be nice to be able to compare the Honda pieces to the Kawi pieces.

Yep, yer right.

I just found my Kawi setup and the gear is pressed on with a keyway. Damn that little piece is heavy.

Here are some measurements i took of my piece :

Over all height..... 2.394 inches
Width of shaft " Before taper " ..... 1.189 inches
Height of gear..... .651 inches
Width of gear...... 1.132 inches
Width of timing mark disc.... 2.997 inches ( 3 inches

)
Width of hole on backside ( fits onto crankshaft end ) ..... .971 inches
Depth of hole on backside...... .424 inches

If anyone can, measure your Honda piece to see if they are close. I doubt the end of the CB crank is the same as a KZ .

I'd bet a cyber-beer that the drive gear that mounts to the crank is exactly the same for both the Kawi and the Honda.

I bet another cyber-beer that the gear is from some common distributor, and modified. How many teeth on a Chevy gear? Ford? Bill's has 11 teeth...

Volks doesn't have a gear on the dist., neither does Chrysler...

Damn ! After seeing Bill's pictures, the honda piece is way different than the Kawi one that i have. Although the gear looks to be the same.

The kawi gear has 11 teeth also.

when you say there is a need for these drive gears does that mean you contacted mallory and they couldnt help you

Mallory have been a long time reliable company ... www.malloryperformance.com also their web site has a motorcycle section. they advertise their phone number on their web site.
