Fork Chrome ring installation cb750k1
« on: June 05, 2012, 07:36:14 AM »
What's the best sequence for putting the chrome ring onto the forks.  I've installed the rubber gators and thought that you could fit the chrome ring over the gators for a snug fit but it doesn't want to slide up.  Do you put the gators on and then slide down or up like in the picture

Its been a long time since I've done it, so I can't answer your question other than to say that looks completely wrong. Like its upside down or something.

Someone will chime in   ;D

Wow.  Rookie mistake.  I've looked at the parts book and could have sworn I had it correctly. Thanks guys - off to working on the bike.

Yep the ring is upside down and goes on first before the gaitor.

Be sure the gator snaps into the groove on both ends then pull the ring down to the gator not over it.

Is that an aftermarket gator or do you still have it upside down? Take a look at my pic. The longer portion goes down to the top of the fork leg. The top is shorter where it meets that chrome ring.

Unfortunately that's not a OEM gator. I had a small tear in the original ones and decided to replace both not realizing that the ones I ordered are cheap imitations that serve the purpose but lack aesthetics. I should have left the original ones on there. I destroyed them while taking them off.
