Tank Options for CB750
« on: June 05, 2012, 10:14:44 AM »
I have seen a few of these bikes with sporty tanks and I was curious what other tanks might be decently good fits for this bike? I just want something smaller and rounder. Thanks!

How much money are you willing to spend?

Well I'd like to keep it under $100 if possible, I've seen some sporty tanks for around that but just curious if other people had seen or have other tanks on their 750's

$100US will probably barely get you a used up, faded tank with rust for these bikes.
You are gonna have to spend more to get something plug in ready.

Is this something you are willing to put some elbow work in to get on? How nice do you want it to be? 10ft? or 5ft and closer?

I assume you're building a chopper or a bobber with the stock frame.  You will probably have to cut the 2 tubes and triangle off the backbone to make any of these tanks work.

These are all available at Lowbrow Customs http://www.lowbrowcustoms.com/index.php

The repop Wassel peanut tanks are more rounded.  They have an angled tunnel to sit level on the frame.

Axed tanks are more rounded and have a mid tunnel.

Narrow Alien tanks are more oval and flatter than the Axed tank.  They have a low tunnel.

If any of these fit the look you're going for, buy new.  Don't mess around with old tanks that may be rusty inside or full of bondo under the paint.  If you want something vintage that isn't currently repopped then you will have to deal with issues like rust, liners, and dents.

Anyone know if there's a reference table for tank swapping? Something that says: "if you have this bike, these tanks are a straight swap on". For my 78 cb750k, by the way...

Boulevard, I clicked on that link above and it has all the measurements, that's what I'm goin by, think I found one that works but just gotta double check some measurements for sure. Not sure on the mounting though, is it ok to go through the frame with a bolt to mount some of these?

I believe a Shadow tank will fit.  I had an 82 DOHC 750 that I was going to put one on.
