CB550 Cafe Center Stand Question
« on: June 18, 2012, 07:44:14 PM »
Does anyone running a 4 into 1 exhaust on their CB550 retain their center stand? If so, how do you do it? Pics would be very much appreciated. I'm at that point of my build where I need to figure out whether it stays or goes and how I am going to raise the rear to do maintenance once its done.

Thanks in advance.

If its anything like the CB750K, all the brand names like Kerker, Jardine, Hooker, etc. allow for retention of the centerstand by routing the pipe off to the right.. A simple standoff bracket is included with those pipes to keep the stand from hitting the chain. Often the brackets are lost at resale of a pipe. but they are easy to make.

A brand like a Yosh replica does not allow for the retention of the stand, period. Because of its under the bike routing.

You'll need to hear it from a 550 guy.

Some people leave the mounting tabs on and just put the stand on for maintainence no  return spring. Just don't have a flat to far away from home.

I like the idea of leaving off and only putting on when having to do maintenance. It would be nice to have the ability to keep it on though.

Its a Mac Exhaust system.
That's in the group that allows CS use, at least for CB750s.

+1 on leaving it off. Every time i park it at home i slip on the center stand. It takes maybe a minute to do and 10 seconds to take off.

I have a big ass washer on one of the bolts. That keeps it from hitting.

ya a big washer on the bolts that hold on the center stand will keep the stand down from hitting the chain. the stock exhaust has like a little bracket thing that holds the center stand from hitting the chain.

i built my exhaust so i dont have like a bumper on my exhaust to hold back that center stand when it is up but the big washers solves that problems.

also i keep mine on its just easy to work on the bike and places that have soft tarmac or dirt the center stand words great and dosnt sink into the ground like the kick stand.

you can keep the center stand off and whenever you want to service the bike you can slip it back in. you dont need to put the spring on which is a pain in the ass since the center stand can work for servicing without the spring. spring just keeps it up but ur just servicing the bike so its down anyways.

if how the center stand sticks out to far just cut back that long piece down that u use to put it down.

idk i think its worth keeping it on especially if you have to service the bike on the road.

my 550 used to have the mac 4 to 1. it had the center stand still on it never had any problems with it.
