CB750 owner from Rochester, NY just saying hi
« on: June 21, 2012, 07:00:13 PM »
Hey everyone. Just wanted to say hi. I have a 1978 CB750F in pieces (and missing some) in my garage that I've been sitting on for a while. I'm currently working on putting my CX500 back together, but am going to give a go at the 750 soon. I'll definitely be asking a lot of questions, so hopefully I don't annoy anyone. Not even sure where to start with this thing. Pretty new to working on bikes. Anyway, hi and thanks in advance for the vast amounts of knowledge I'll be soaking up from you guys.

Welcome to the forum 999. How about some pics of the 500 and 750? One thing you will find out is the guys here go bonkers over pics... ;D Plus, it helps us get a little idea of what we are working on...with you. No question on this board is a stupid question so fire away when you are ready and again, welcome.

Thanks for the welcome! Not sure if you really want to see pics of my pile of parts, but I'll add some to this thread later. The 750 carbs sat with gas in them for almost a decade so that might be pic worthy. Looks like someone melted a twix bar in every float bowl  :o

Rebuilding the carbs would probably be a good place to start actually. The motor turns freely and only has 10k miles on it. Not sure what I should check on that. I'm a little hesitant to tear it apart, but if theres something I should check, let me know!

I would check spark plugs, see if they look normal, then replace them. Drain oil, check, replace with new. Check valve clearances and timing....that's a good start.
