1965 Honda S65 oil pump question
« on: June 26, 2012, 02:47:09 PM »
My girlfriend's S65 oil pump broke. On Bikebandit they sell a troichoid pump, but hers was the gear pump. Can I use the troichoid one instead? Will it fit (same bolt pattern, etc.)?

Thanks for any help. Greatly appreciated.

If they say it fits and is for the S65...then I suppose it would do the same job.  (You know, the S65 is a SOHC, but its not a 4. ;))

Yes, but I've learned that this is one of the best places to get help, no matter what the bike!  ;D

A trochoid pump is a type of gear pump, so I have to rely on their sourcing of correct parts, but if it bolts up, it should work fine.

My wife also has an S65, though now feels she needs some more speed after getting comfy on my CB400f.

So, it turns out that the troichoid will work, but you also need the shaft that drives it from the cam chain.  They switched the male and female ends, so if you don't get the drive shaft, you'll have two male ends, and that just won't work.  Also, you need the cam sprocket, because the drive shaft mounts into it differently.

I got this bike together and took it for a test ride.  But a little ways down the street I heard a terrible sound (CraCK!), and walked the bike home and haven't touched it since.  I'll have to take the engine apart (once again!), and see what that sound came from.   :-\

One of the best sources I have come across for parts for the S65 and S90 bikes is Ed's Motorcycle Repair in Bakersfield, CA
(661) 871-2989

They don't have a web site, but they have all kinds of used parts and rebuilt bikes for sale.

Thanks Tom.  Good to know!

Thank you too, Zach.  Although I'm far from Denver, and it's a 65 I have, although I have a few 90s too.
