CB550F Brake Union Replacement
« on: June 30, 2012, 01:26:38 PM »
I have two issues - the brake lines are shot and the distance between the lever and the union is reduced due to it having clip ons and it is all bunched up.

I was hoping to get new braided lines, but was thinking of replacing the two lines and the union that houses the switch for the brake light with one line.  Has anyone replaced this altogether and how did they sort the brake switch

Very simple.

You can get small banjo bolt brake light switches that thread into the master cylinder.

I'm doing the same thing with my 500. Using a m/c from a VTR1000. The brake switch is right on the rear of the m/c, so only one line from the m/c to the caliper.

Only thing to be careful of is to make sure to get the proper angle on the banjoes especially at the caliper, and where and how to route the brake line.

You can also get different colored lines and banjoes to suit your paint scheme.

I quite like the original lever and M/C.  If I go for the twin rotor option I was going to use the GL1000 lever and MC.  Think I will go down the simpler route and get the straight line and single banjo with the embedded switch.  Got the old lines off today, mole grips needed, but not too bad.  Just need to work out the length and what fittings at each end.  Went on a line builder site and so many options I want to make sure I get the right ones.  Does 32" sound right length for clipons, straight down to caliper, with enough slack?  swear i saw that on a post somewhere.
