Float Bowls - Resistance when putting back on.

I am finishing up my carb rebuild and im putting the float bowls back on. It feels like they are hitting something when im putting them back on, I guess it's the leaf springs. is this normal or am i putting them back on wrong ?  they don't sit flush before i screw them on.  thanks in advance..

thats correct,the leaf spring holds the main jet in place,just close them up squarely,youll feel the spring fighting against you a little.,only nip those bowl screws home plus a little more.

Are you sure they're in right? There should be a springiness, buy certainly not an obstruction. Floats upside down?

No the floats are def. on right, i double checked.  i can tell it is the leaf spring hitting against the bowl as I'm putting it on.  It goes on easy enough, just with the resistance i didn't want to force it.  You know one wrong move and break a part and........... thank you guys for the quick response.

be careful not to over tighten as the threads can strip out, especially when the bowls are on and off several times for all those things we remove carbs for  ;D
worst case, if you do strip one, a longer screw and nut will fit

Thanks flybox, i actually found one bolt that had been stripped out by the PO.  I thought i had it tight enough, but obviously not, when i put the carbs back on, guess what ...yea that carb leaks, go figure.  lesson learned to test them out before everything is put back together.   Good tip about the bolt/nut, i was trying to figure out what to do.. thanks!

Even if that seam is wide open, why would fuel leak unless the float was set wrong? Or a needle&seat are bad

Phil71, I thought about that also.  It sounds like a combination of both doesnt it..  I havent had a chance to pull the carbs back off yet,  It could also be one of the small rubber fuel connectors that runs between them,.  I'll pull them off and see if i can see where it's coming from.  I just replaced all the float valves and made sure the floats were good and set the float levels.
