Topic: want to undertake a cr750 replica project but have no idea

Hey guys, ever since a kid, I have been in love with the cr750. now im fortunate to be in the position to undertake a cr750 replica project but not quite sure where to start.

i will be limited by funds and the main priority is the get the look of the cr750 so bodywork and aesthetics will take precedence over performance at first.

Also the bike will be for the road so will need fully functional electrics.

I had a few general questions to get me going in the right direction?

1. is the cb750 the best platform for this replica? can it easily be done with a cb550? or a smaller bike? are the body parts the same? sorry to bring this up on a sohc forum but are the later model dohc cb750 suitable?
2. where is the best place to get the parts for the replica? is airtech the only company that do it? does it require a fair bit of fabrication?
3. where can i get the quad megaphone exhaust from? is there any company that sells them off the shelf?
4. is there anywhere i can buy gear for the street for this build?- instruments, lighting, etc?

Hi, I'm in a similar position, also interested in this stuff. There doesn't seem to be a 'recipe' that I've found e.g. buy this from here, buy that from there etc and she'll be apples. Especially if you want a streetable bike.

Been looking into the fairing in particular. M3 Racing advised that the Airtech CR750 fairing is designed to fit a bike running a total loss system i.e. with a very cut-down cover on the left hand side. There's a thread on here somewhere showing a guy absolutely hacking his Airtech fairing to bits to get it to fit a streetable CR replica.

M3 have a smaller alternator and cover, but it's still not narrow enough for the Airtech fairing apparently. It also doesn't support a starter motor, but that's a just a sacrifice you have to make if you want to do something about the huge standard alternator cover.

There seems to be a few other places that offer either a CR replica fairng or a more generic 'classic' fairing (haven't found one in Oz though). It's very hard to work out if they are any good though and I haven't come to any conclusions yet. Thinking of leaving the alternator and fairing to a later stage and just start off with the tank and seat.
