head reassembly
« on: July 07, 2012, 07:20:35 AM »
1978 cb750k. Ok so I finally got the cylinder block back over the pistons (after much cussing and fernangeling) now I need to get the head back on the block. My manual doesn't show what goes where, and in my madness of trying to get the block back on the case, some rubber orings/gaskets fell out as did some of those metal cylinders that I think are oil passages or line-up pins.

What goes where? Does anyone have a picture/diagram of the top of the block/bottom of the head?

Those O rings are hard to get (unless you live near a marina) these and some other honda outboards are the only motors in the world that use that size o ring it seems, so don't loose them .
As for the lost labor, it's just practice until you are comfortable with it. The cursing, there's always more of that.
Fun......... it's all about the fun.

No those are only "inside the gasket" in a maner of speaking. They are actually pushed into grooves that surround the sleeve where it emerges from the aluminum cylinder block. If you never removed them they are still there. If you ahd it resleeved to a 900cc they would be gone.

Truth be told the bike runs just fine without them. They are a belt and suspenders approach to keeping oil from wicking up the outside wall of the sleeeves.

I may be wrong but I think they come with most gasket sets. If they don't its because as I mentioned they are not necesary.

First hand experience. Left them out several times on purpose.
