This pisses me off to no end but I cant figure it out.
Example..back in the late 90s I had 68 RSSS Camaro. The first 7 car shows I took this car to I won 1st place. The last show I watched this father with his kid touching the paint on every car they passed. When they got to my car I stopped them and asked if they had any idea the labor that is involved to get the paint that perfect.I politely explained to them that most of the cars had a do not touch card in plain sight and stoped them so they would not touch my car as I saw them comming.
Another time with the same car I decided to drive it to work one day.I stopped on the way to pick up breakfast for everyone. There was not one single car in the entire parking lot but I still took up two parking places just to keep someone from parking right next to me and I parked far enough away from the resuraunt to decrease the chance of some even getting close to the car.
While I'm waiting for the food order I find a seat by the window so I can admire my car and about this time this guy pulls into this large parking lot occupied only with my Camaro.
He pulls up right next to the passenger side of my car and opens his door fast and hard chipping the paint on my door,he couldnt explain his stupidity but he paid for a respray.
Now I have a perfect paint job on the bike and people want to rub their hands on it?
Who are these people and were do they come from?

It's like your penis, you feel compelled to rub it with your hands.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

It's so visceral touching a shiny thing.

Some people believe luck and good fortune can be passed by touch.  For those, I prefer to deliver a good smack to ensure solid contact, and test their resolve.

They say it takes a village to properly raise young un's.  Hard to argue with that given the individual parenting examples I've seen.  Many never stop being children themselves.

I forgot to mention the wood srearing wheel with tilt adjust and the fact that the car had AC.
In total it had 39 options. The car was puchased by a GM exec for his wife.
Back when I owned this car in the mid 90's these things were not a big deal like they are today with the advent of all the telivised classic car auctions and shows we have today.

If you have a single picture of it anywhere online, it can be shown here with a simple <img>

Back in high school I worked at an auto parts store with another guy who had a bike. A guy pulled up and his kid was going nuts over the bikes. The dad lifted the kid up ONTO the seat of my friend's bike, so my friend ran out the back door and snuck around and quickly sat in the guys car! The dad was PISSED, he was yelling and screaming "get the F out of my car!" to which my friend pointed to his kid sitting on HIS bike and calmly said..."and just HOW do you think THAT is any different?" The guy turned beet red and left in a hurry. Stupid people are everywhere!

The one that floors me is the idiots who scratch "wash me" into the dust on someone's car.  (With their finger, I presume, although a penis is always a possibility.)  Were they raised in a cave?

I've often wondered how may coats of wax it takes to protect your paint from these people.

ealanm,
No amounts of wax can protect you paint from these people.
I would like to see a new product invented for people who love their machines.
For now we will just call this product F%$ off.
You can hide this somewhere on your car or bike and when the offending culprit touches your stuff...they get sprayed with the most rancid cat spooge.

I have taken pictures of original photographs with my 5mp cellphone camera. You get a pretty good reproduction.

"Pictures of pictures "should be the name of a rock group.
I would think by doing that ,something would be lost in the transition.
The picture in the minds eye is allways the most perfect.
Just stop touching my paint...it pains me when I have to get out the cleaner wax to remove the fine scratches from your hands rubbing it.

Some folks just don't know stuff like that.  Most likely there's no malice intended.  Kind of like touching a light bulb with your fingers before you screw it in.  That's not good either but lot of folks don't know...
