rec/reg from early 80's 450 on cb550

anyone tried to use a stock combo rectifier/regulator from an early 80's cb450 or cm450? the only reason i ask is my friend has a few of them laying around. my bike already has simple wiring, but i'm trying to slim it down more.

does the early 80s 450 alternator have an electromagnetic field or a permanant magnet one?the regulators will be very different.
