Hello everyone...I am a newbie from NJ
« on: July 31, 2012, 03:08:36 PM »
Hello to everyone.

I was looking to join a Honda forum, looked around the web, found some forums are downright abusive to new members, and just generally nasty. Saw this forum and everyone seemed pretty reasonable, so I signed up.

Anyway, I asked a friend to take a look at a bike I wanted to buy, and he said take my Honda, it's been sitting in the garage for last 30 years not doing anything ...no charge. Only has 6k original miles. So I am now a very happy owner of a 1978 Honda CB400T Type II. Not the most sought-after bike; but I thought for where I am at in the process, it wasn't a bad deal at all.

I'll post pictures when I can.

Welcome, Sam.  the 400T was a fine commuter bike, ample power if one is of average size and relatively smooth.  In your avatar, wasn't the line 220 221 whatever it takes?   One of the funniest lines ever delivered in a movie  ;D...Larry

How did I blow that line? I've been quoting since I was a kid. Thanks for the correction and the warm welcome.

Did you get a title with the bike?  From what I hear getting a title in NJ is almost impossible...Larry

Ha ha...it did not. I went to DMV this morning, they gave me a number to call, and it sounds like I got the right guy on the phone. Get this, I was his third call in the last two days with the same request. Anyway, they call it Improper Evidence of Ownership, it's about a 4 to 6 week process. I was thinking I would document the process for the forum somewhere as it seems to be a hot topic. So I have time...I still need to get my drivers license. My goal is to work on the bike, get it in shape for the road come the cooler fall weather.

Good luck with the government bureaucracy  ::) ::) I would not put much money into  it until you are certain of acquiring a title.  I have been there in PA, wound up parting out the bikes...Larry

That is exactly why I went with a 72.  In Alabama a vehicle over 35yrs old does not need a title.  A bill of sale will suffice.

There are title agencies that use Alabama to obtain a title for a resident of another state.  NJ and PA are almost impossible to get a title. ...Larry

You guys are stepping on my "free Honda CB400T" buzz...got the packet in the mail today from DMV, couldn't even understand how to complete the first page of the form packet. This should be good, clean fun!

Here's a pic of my bike, and there is also a video that you can click on to view a walk around.
