First, just a little about me and then my bike. I'm recently retired, having had a career as an automated machine tool designer. I also like to build things and am fortunate enough to have a fairly decent machine shop at my home. Def. not a candidate for Mr. couch potato.
So, now the bike: I have a 1970 750 K0, which I purchased new, a red one. Wife & I took our honeymoon on it,
and many subsequent trips before the kids came along. I had a Velorex side-hack for awhile. Then in the early 1990's I bought a '75 Norton Commando Interstate, tore the 750 down to the frame and stored it away. I put
the handle bar and front sliders in one of those conical bush bean baskets you often see at farmer's markets.
So, this is indeed a "basket case" restoration.
The engine serial # is CB750E-1000903--which makes this an early sand-cast. I remember seeing that round
smooth oil filter housing at the dealer, and had them change it to the finned one. Also came with a 16T front
sprocket, which was soon changed to 17T. The history buffs will remember that guys were cracking the case
with that 16T on full throttle. I saw one once where the final drive gear and bearing had ripped right out
of the case!
I've made some tasteful modifications/additions down through the years. Tapered roller bearings for the steering head, Lester mags and then sliders and dual front disks from a '78 Super Sport. About three months ago, I started in earnest, the full restoration. Much more to say when I start a new thread in the projects
forum. I like what I see here on this website. Kudos to the web developer/administrator for such a nice job.
