If I remember correctly -

Crowers are ~ 375gm
Carrillos are ~ 320gm

Too late to go to the basement and weigh a Crower. Carrillos are in the engine.

I have a set of RCS rods ill weigh

The RCs are billet and the Yoshi are forged?
I thought I read something saying no one had broken an RC rod?  Does that mean they dont stretch like other alloy rods?

Goldenrods are billet aluminum.. most Aluminum rods are forged, and if you dont know the history of them, can  have an unknown life expectancy. Forged aluminum rods are subject to stress corrossion, and can deteriorate over time. I have a set of Goldenrods, they guy I got them from said he had heard of one failing, but it had been run hard for a long time..
Goldenrods held up to 200-300 hp, so at 80 or maybe 100 hp, I will take my chances.. after splitting a set of 69 cases apart, and finding 20 pieces of a Yoshi rod, I got no desire to complete that set of 3 rods..

 What are RCS rods ?

RCS are more than ONE RC rods Frank.

The REAL question pertaining to RC rods is: which ones? Peened, peened and bushed or Golden? Now with that being said - peened should weigh the same as stock Honda, peened and bushed MAY weight the same as Honda provided the bushes weigh the equivalent of the amount of material removed in the little end to bush and Golden, we all know they have the weight of aluminum and not gold.

Are those the same as the MC Engineering ones?  They look exactly the same, but have a different brand name on them.

No. The later MTC had small end bushings....they always doweled the cap (except in those really early ones I'd guess). Falcon did the same and were better than the MTC IMO but that was when Falicon was owned by he man that started the company. Still.......I would not trust an aluminum rod for long periods of time. The difference on the street is not worth it.....I'd always go with a Carrillo or good steel rod.

No, i'm running a special steel set from R.C. Engineering.  I bought them from an old friend that picked them up from the man himself.  They are not factory modified rods.  They are larger.

MRieck is right.  Aluminum rods are not for street use.  They are for racing and to be changed out often.   ;)

It can be narrowed down a bit further than that in my opinion.
They are for drag racing only, anybody running alloy rods in a road racing or speedway motor are asking for trouble.
Good quality alloy rods can certainly sustain high loads but suffer fatigue issues from sustained use.

Cheers,
Brian

No. MTCs were made in the USA by MTC from Alcoa forgings

MC rods were made either in Japan or Tiawan.

Hi gang.A question.I have learned from many sources that alum. rods are not for street or road racing purposes.I have the RC golden rods in my Cobra unit and it is always a wonder if I have made a mistake in using them.My question for discussion is two fold,First,Yoshimura sold aluminum rods which I had used when my engine was first built as an 812 with Daytona cam. That company was only interested in road racing as far as I know yet they specked these rods with no mention of change out intervals.Any thoughts on why?Second, all the Norton,Triumph, and BSA engines I have seen apart had aluminum rods and  I had not heard of rod failures being a particular  issue nor that they had to be replaced at any interval.Any thoughts people? My crankcases are wondering as am I.  Rock On

There is a certain fatigue factor that can occur in aluminum rods. However, there are literly hundreds of CBs running out there with MTCs , Golden rods, MCs, etc for over 30 years.

One of the less desirable aspects of aluminum rods is rod stretch. You usually have to run more piston to head clearance with them.

Those Yosh rods were made by a company in Calif that is no longer in business, SuperRod.  Their main advantage was they were stronger than the oem steel rods, but not as strong as Golden rods or MTCs.

At some point in the late 70s, Jim at Action Fours had a steel rod made in Japan that was beefier than oem rods. He sold them to us and RC Eng.
