Can the wrong size fuse prevent something from working? As if too big and the current can't travel through it?

When you say wrong size, do you mean AMP rating? If so, using an higher rated fuse should work,  but is very risky. Using one with a lower than recommended rating may cause it to 'pop' under normal load. Best to find and use the correct fuse.

I was wondering if a higher amp fuse than the original could prevent something from working?

No, it will not prevent something from working.  Fuses are designed to prevent an excess amperage from damaging a circuit by melting if there is an overload.  I currently have a bolt in my fuse block because I had one blow out and I didnt have a spare.  If there is a short now it could damage my electrical system but everything works great

However, something not working anymore can be the result of previous use of higher value fuse.  The fuse is supposed to be the "weak link" to prevent damage.  If the weak link is defeated by using a higher value, stuff can happen.

I would say you are ignorant but you know better so that would make you Stupid with a capital S That means EXTRA Stupid Instead of taking the time to photograph your Stupidity you could use the time to get a fuse. No offence well maybe.

Gotta do what you gotta do to get rolling.  The bolt was replaced with a fuse and a spare was purchased as well.  Fortunately, the time I spent taking a picture didnt interfere.  Also fixed the loose wire that a previous owner decided to leave dangling that was causing the short.
