Just some dirty cases that need a diet... and

The shop is all but done (for now), the second pic is my build table which need to be cleaned off...LOL... it's freshly ground and very flat
Lots more space to work on multiple projects.
Traded a yammy XS400 for the little TIG welder/plasma cutter :)

Cuts in a few days and some patterns for the blockoff plates and sump pan.

Cases got cut last night, need a full set of case and mains hardware (don't need the trans section bolts though!) so I can assemble the cases and finish machine the blockoff area.

I checked the serial #s on the cases, one is a '70 K1 and the other is a '73 K3. Should be fine for my purpose.

Also need 2 cylinder blocks and one head to continue the mockup.

Nice open set-up. I like the pooch and the dart board for break periods. 8) 8) 8) Did I miss the beer-fridge and the B&W TV?

I have barrels and heads but I'm across the pond in Wisconsin. I would assume you will need good cam towers with the heads and will need valve-covers to re-inforce. Should be plenty of stock in your neighborhood.

You didn't miss the beer fridge, that's in the still messy part of the shop...lol

Set the motors next to each other and this gave the best symetry and the blower is close to position. Won't know until I get the rest of the externals, but it's keeping me excited and moving forward.

As I'm not using anything stock other than crankcase, oil galleries and an external oil pump, does anyone know of a reason why I couldn't run the rear motor reversed?
The only other thing to address there is when offset chamfering oiling holes in the crank it's usually based on direction of rotation
I know I'll have to get a cam ground to run the opposite direction (of the same spec), but I don't see any reason otherwise that it can't rotate in reverse which will maintain the same rotation as the front in operation. I hope that made sense...lol

Also would the firing order harmonics possibly produce an oscillating effect keeping stock firing order @ 90* between motors. Front would fire normal and rear would fire 1,2,4,3 only starting from the right side, creating a "criss-cross" effect on where power is being made when, if that makes sense...lol

Well a bit more falling into place.
2 cylinder blocks and another bare head are on the way. When they get here I'll start mocking up motor plates with MDF, and build blower mounting bracket and manifold as well as throttle body mounting elbow and blowoff valve plumbing.

In the grand scheme of this crazy build, the rear motor is the biggest challenge. I'm reversing the rear motor, but it occurred to me that the cylinder block needs to be in the normal position of cam chain tensioner to the rear. I don't see any reason this can't work but I'll look at it closer when I have the jugs to compare. Dowel bores will need to be machined (and gaskets madified accordingly) but the rest looks pretty symmetrical. Oil feed to the head maybe, but nothing that can't be plumbed external.

Juggs and head should be here tomorrow!
Gotta run to Portland MI to pick up the yammys I sold @ BBB (gotta deal with customs before I can title them) and make it back before the post delivery.
Going to Ubly to race the chop, so nothing this weekend.
I'll get a few pics tomorrow with the juggs and heads on for those picture junkies around here

You know someone will probably gladly trade you a later motor to be same year as the other...for that 70 set of cases... I sure would if shipping was easier...

Made it back from 150 miles of towing a trailer with my chop this morning. Had to pick up some Yammy motors and frames so I can deal with customs... >:(
15 minutes after I got back, the post arrives with a tote for me!   ;D ;D
Inside are 2 well worn but solid cylinder blocks and one head!
So I had to set them on the cases to keep the visual stimulation going :)

Does anyone have dimensional drawings for the top-end?
I know I'm going to have to relocate the 4 center cylinder/head stud holes in order to reverse the head, and would rather work from existing data than measure...lol... I still will, but rather measure to verify than to determine dimensions raw.
That and my shop is not as well equipped as I'd like as far as height gauges and such.

Not much progress as other stuff jumps in the way and I gotta work to pay for this stuff...lol... and wife's projects trump mine sometimes.

Are you planning on having cranks turn opposite directions.. requires a gear drive,or drive on both sides.
or a belt drive both drive ends on the same side?

no counter-rotating cranks, driven just like Sorcerer, either belt or silent chain connecting motors and primary to clutch/trans.
Blower driven off rear motor and ignition off front along with oil pump.

The orientation in the pics was more to set up a visual and they stayed standing with the blower in place .

The problem seems to be, rear cylinder block needs to keep chain tensioner in stock orientation but the head needs to be reversed. So something needs that bolt pattern reversed for the center 4 head studs that are not symetrical.
