Leak Proof Classic Fork Seals
« on: August 07, 2012, 04:33:16 PM »
Just replaced the old seals on my 550 K3 with these.

It was too easy....pushed right on with no driver...just finger pressure....something must be wrong????

OEM on left...

Anybody using these?

I used them. They lasted two years. I bought a set from Honda 5 years ago. No issues with Honda.

Well, I'd kind of hoped for a little better service life.

At least the warranty says "as long as you own the bike", instead of "for the life of the seal"

As easy as the install was, probably don't want to do it every year!

Thanks for the replies!

the seals in forks are designed for a shaft to rub up and down in them, ive used equivalent size seals designed for a shaft that spins with no trouble,if they more or less "fell"into the fork leg that sounds a bit wrong?your legs arent corroded out in the seal area?

No, the seal seat areas are in good shape, and there are no wear/scratch marks on the tubes......fingers crossed.....waiting on the dust caps to arrive...hope they will go on without having to re-disassemble!?!?

so they more or less "fell in"easy, maybe some sealant might help them seal?

They didn't exactly "fall in" place, had to be pushed in, but the fit was not as tight as normal seals you have to bang in place with a split ring.

Evidentally that is the way they are supposed to fit, as the instructions say they are to "float" in the seat area, and need at least 0.5mm clearance between the seal and clip, and 3-4mm space is ok.

OF COURSE, I didn't read the directions till I finished installing the first one, and it felt too easy!!
