XS 750 Mags on a cb750f SS?
« on: August 11, 2012, 04:55:52 PM »
Hi, I was wondering if it would be possible to mount the old 6 spoke style of mags onto my 1978 cb750f SS. I just love the look of them, and would love to throw them on my bike. Would it work? How much modification if any would it take? Thanks!

Anything's possible mate, the wheels are the same size as yours, but you'd probably need to make up wheel spacers, re-space the Yamaha brake discs, (if the discs are the same OD and thickness as yours, of course) etc.

Your axle sizes will probably be the same in dia, not length, from my limited experience. If you're buying the Yamaha wheels, make sure you buy everything to go with them (discs, axles, sprocket carriers, etc) as you'll probably have to "mix and match" the Yam and Honda parts to make it all work.

Finally, don't pay too much for them, they're an "aquired taste" (not everybody likes them) and most of those horrible old Yamaha triples are worthless, so the parts prices should be cheap. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

The shaft drive to sprocket conversion is a bit of work but not very difficult..

Lesters look pretty similar IMO, if you can find some that is, and they are made to fit already.

Thank you guys so much. You're a huge help! And about those old Lesters. I've been looking on eBay quite a bit but nothing turns up for those things. I'd like to get a hold of a set of those just because of the less amount of work. Anyone have any for sale?

Run an ad near you looking for project Hondas or Mag wheels or speed goodies.. More lesters have turned up holding whole bikes for cheap, that you will ever find cheap on ebay...

look for lesters on craigslist.  If you dont find any, look at a nearby craigslist.  there are usually some on there and the people selling them dont have them priced near as high as on ebay.  I found some just the other day with new tires for 200 here in Illinois.  I will probably regret not buying them some day lol.

Hey guys, i just realized that i missed up on my title... I meant to say xs650, not 750! But oh well. Thanks for allthe help! The only problem with the pictured post wheels is that the rear os a drum brake. My rear is a disc! Would a convertion be difficult? If so, i think Ill go for those

Not sure what you mean mate, the XS500 has a disc brake rear wheel, or are you talking about the CL post? Cheers, Terry. ;D

can be done with patience.  I have fitted the rear, and am trying to fit the front wheels off an 82 kawasaki kz750.

Found this tonight. Should I go for it? If it can be done, I'm willing to give it a try. Comes with both sweet drilled discs too

Go for it mate, you'll never know if you don't try. The back wheel is available from the same seller for 30 bucks, and don't forget to buy the axles and all the other crap, you might need to mix and match parts to make them fit. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I think the XS500, and the TX models all had those mags, as did the late 1970s RDs. I will warn you though, they are HEAVY! They will kill some performance.
