The Olympics Closing Ceremony
« on: August 15, 2012, 02:09:37 PM »
I watched the closing ceremony on Sunday and thought how quickly things can change. Just over two weeks earlier the world thought Britain was rubbish at sport and good with music.

No offense but if you aren't British the opening ceremonies were boring and confusing.  I've worked in TV and film for over 20 years and that was horribly produced for television.  If you have to explain to the audience whats happening you've failed.  On simply Olympic note neither of the ceremonies had anything to do with Olympic sport.  The former was one long and boring history lesson and the latter was a walk down memory lane of great British music mainly performed by bands other than the ones who created it.

no offense taken mike but as it was the british games it was a british opening ceremony , we all understood it and it was very popular . to dumb it down so people in other countries could understand everything would have made it bland . the whole point of moving the games from country to country is to vary the way its done and see things from the host nations point of view .
from your user name i take it you are a cyclist mike , i did get to see a session in the velodrome unfortunately not a final but it was very good anyway .

I watched ever second of the track stuff. Just awesome.  I couldn't have been happier for Hoy, great way to end his career. That dude is an eff'n stud.

I get that the opening and closing cerimonies should be country centric but they should also reflect the games....these did neither.  They were more of a 'centennial' celebration and had nothing to do with Olympic sport...or sport of any type whatsoever.

I enjoyed the opening ceremony (didn't expect to mind you) as it was different and innovative. It was a sort of potted history of Britain and I felt there was a mild hint of Olympics in it - the clue was the five enormous rings that were produced by the cast. The games themselves were very good I thought, but the closing ceremony was the biggest collection of drug addicts and sex offenders I have seen outside the cells of a police station. Terrible let down but probably appealed to the pond life who sit glued to the tv most of the day waiting for their next benefit cheque.

I'm pleased to say I missed every second of it. I put it way up there with the royal wedding.  ::)
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Simon#42, you ever walk alone?  Go Latics...  cause I like their coach and they knocked ManU out of the title.

I carried the torch during the 1996 run to Atlanta.  Last Olympics I paid attention too.

both fine reasons to be a wigan fan !   i love the reds but its been a difficult start to the season [ even worse than the last two and they were terrible ] but as i have been watching them for 45 years im not about to stop now !

to be honest i dont think there is such a thing as a bad olympics no mater where its held ,  the para olympics are on at the moment these athletes  are proper hero's .

my best memory from an opening ceremony was the bloke flying into the stadium with a jet pack on , think that was  LA in 84
