Progress is slow.. Working on reassembling battery box. Considering buying a new wiring harness just because the old one is pretty tattered.

BTW...To get the engine out all you had to do was lay the bike on its right side and lift the frame off after the bolts are out.
The oil filter must be off and the small breather cover on the top of the engine.
Tells you that in the Clymers work shop manual but of course I know you have it.

To put the engine in the frame lay the engine on a blanket or sleeping bag on
its right side and lower the frame over it and install the two rear bolts, then tilt it up.

Your forks are backwards, in case you didn't know.  On the 77 & 78 F's, the calipers mount behind the forks, unlike on all K models.  If that's a look you're going for, I get it, but from a performance standpoint, your best bet would be to reverse your forks.

Thank you for that. I would like to say that's the look I was going for but I really had no idea they were on there wrong. Now my calipers might actually make sense now!

Installed my 4 into 1 and started wiring as well. I discovered that I'm going to have clearance issues with my license plate being mounted under the brake light because of shock travel. I think if I hit any kind of bump my tire will eat it. So, what I'm going to do is mount it off to the side on the axel. Started wiring too, basically I'm just plugging any thing that mates up back together if the wires match up in the connectors.

yeah I still need some odds and ends. The brake shims that go in between the pad and piston I need for the front two calipers and two brake pad springs.

Cables i don't have but I might be able to source the springs from the local salvage yard....or you can gime them a call and see (602) 437-3148 Bob's Cycle Salvage. Ask for Eric tell him Dusty told you to call.....probably sell them to you for the cost of shipping... ill also look the next time im in.

Just got my carbs mounted! It took me, my little brother, a ratchet strap going around the front frame rails and exhaust, and a generous amount of gasoline jelly.
About to go put on a throttle cable. And then a choke cable, and then hopefully my air box with a little luck.
I know this update is pretty much worthless because there is no pictures or huge progress but you know what? I haven't been this excited in a long time. My bike is really starting to come together and I couldn't have even gotten anywhere near this far without this forum and you guys so THANK YOU!

What do you guys think- 4 into 1 exhaust, or 4 into 2?
Can't make up my mind about which would be better. And also, would it make a big difference as far as jetting for the carbs go?

Put my oil tank back on tonight and filled it. New oil filter as well. Are there any things I should do before trying to start it for the first time in 2 or 3 years?

Put an oil pressure gauge on and make sure you get pressure within a few seconds.

Apetersonboy could you take a close up of your engine number. I can't figure out my year and yours looks like it is in the same location (perpendicular to the starter instead of parallel). Mine isn't painted black though. Thanks

Can anybody tell me the length of the choke cable for a 1978 cb750f? I have a couple around, but they are slightly different in length. I put the shortest one on and connected it to what I believe is the correct place on the carbs. When I fully engaged it, the cable seemed to be way to long. It didn't even come close to fully actuating the plates. Any help would be appreciated.
