When I made that, I was not thinking of a fender, as It was not being used on the street...at first.
 But it is surpisingly stiff, easy to make, and a convenient handle to lift the front wheel...or tow a bike..

Just a bit of an update . My project is still on target to be up and running in 2014, so I've just got to keep plugging away.
 I had a drive over to TST Racing yesterday (Saturday) and after a  chat with the proprietor Tony Salt, he recommended  a make of tyre which I'd never even heard of before :o , a 90/90+18 Heidenau race tyre , which he assured me was ideal for my bike. Anyway,I decided to take advantage of his many years of experience providing tyres to the bike racing community and buy one , also he did me a good deal on the tyre/tube/fitting and balancing.
I'm now waiting patiently for a package of bits to arrive from the US and then I'll be able to get cracking on with the wheelie bars and fuel tank , so happy days  :) :).

I roadraced a borrowed bike with Heidenau's and they seem pretty good. There are several guys on mostly smaller displacement bikes using them here.

Whilst trying to get the wheels aligned it soon became obvious to us that at  some time during the last thirty odd years the bike had been thrown up the road resulting in the head stock being twisted  :(. Well after  a bit of head scratching and a lot of work we've managed to get the wheel alignment absolutely spot on now  :). The wheelie bars would have been finished if we hadn't run out of tubing ,so hopefully the tubing will be here in a couple of days and we can get that job boxed off too.. We've had none of the problems we'd anticipated having  with running such a wide rear rim and tyre combo in a stock frame , which sort of makes up for the un- anticipated  problems we've had with the head stock, I suppose  ::).

Thanks for that Sam ;) . It would be great to be even considered for BOTM 8) .
Believe me, we have put a hell of a lot of work into getting the rolling chassis right ,so that it looks like an authentic P/S bike ,based on a  "K"model , and more importantly, so that it tracks nice and straight too when we're gunning it down the quarter mile.  We are at that stage of the build at the moment where nothing seems to be happening fast , but we're fully focused on the job, and should have a complete rolling chassis soon.The plan is to be starting on the motor over the Christmas break, with a view to having it up and running by spring 2014 . I'm also thinking of getting my hands on a digi SLR for the engine build ,cos the small digi camera which I've been using up till now isn't able to do good  close ups .

Got the wheelie bars finished today .I cut out the inards of the glass tank for more clearance, so now I've just got to try and suss out how and where to mount a small ally fuel tank and figure out a rear fender mount and we should be sorted .

It's been a while since I posted anything on here . Well , there have been developments which should  help to ensure the success of this project , particularly from the financial point of view  :) .I've sold both my LSR Nitrous Busa and my Kawa H2 triple dragbike to make some room and to provide the funding for this build . Selling the Busa was a wrench cos I've had some good (fast ::)) times on that bike , it had almost become a member of the family , but all good things have to come to an end I guess  :(.
I've always tried to live by the maxim " everybody makes mistakes , but a wise man never makes the same mistake twice",  and apart from when women have been involved, I've pretty much stuck to it ;) , that is until a couple of weeks ago when I decided that rather than get the frame/swingarm sandblasted I'd get some paintstriper , and do the job myself, I figured that if I got everything organised it couldn't be as bad as I remember it being the last time I did it over thirty years ago . WRONG ! I ended up covered in bits of old paint ,and everything in my workshop got covered in bits of old paint , and because I'd made the decision to spray everything in primer , and because it was raining outside ,me and everything inside got a further coating  ::). On a more positive note the frame/swingarm and wheelie bars came out looking o.k and I'm going to complete the build with the frame etc in this form and only get things painted up properly when the bike is up an running . Cos I've made that mistake before  ::) ::).

The sun came out today , so I wheeled the bike out for a few snaps . I've got a nice polished front caliper assembly and a drilled/lightened front disc  set up ready to go when I get a front hose sorted . I've also got a rebuilt/polished front master cylinder waiting for a pair of drag bars , when I can get hold of a pair ::) . I've been busy building a shed and sorting out my workshop, but I've managed to get plenty stuff done on the rolling chassis over the festive period and I'm accumulating some hi po engine bits for when I get started on the motor . Here are a couple of pics of where we are at the moment .

Thanks Don  ;). I'm getting a lot of enjoyment out of this build .Unlike you guys in the US , the chance of finding a suitable old drag race sohc Honda as the base for a restoration in the UK is a big fat zero . Because of that I thought I'd have a go at building my own , but I'd love to  find out where my old Honda race motor( which I sold to a guy from Yorkshire years ago) ended up.It would be really neat to be able to buy it back rebuild it, and slot into my project bike .I have been looking, but as yet, without much success  .Up until a few years ago I used to see my old wheels , and other bits and pieces still being raced years after I'd sold them , but I've never seen or heard anything of my old sohc Honda motor. If it wasn't broken up I bet it's lying unloved under someone's work bench or covered it crap in the back of someone's shed .I guess  I'll just have to keep digging  ::)

 My brother owned a big Honda drag engine, at one time was 1080cc and  had a turbo on it. He sold it back to the original owner and no one's seen it since. We drifted away from the bikes for a while and some nice pieces got away. Like a replacement engine case in the box, he remembers it being a sandcast. maybe, maybe not.

I managed to get some stuff done on the bike this weekend . I dropped the crankcases into the frame to check on the fit of the new engine bolt kit , I also had to narrow the upper rear engine mounting lug on the right side by a millimetre to enable me to  fit a thicker  than stock aluminium "K" style rear mount .

Got a bit more done on the bike today (Saturday). Managed to find a nice chrome front mudguard( just like the first RC P/S bike had) on fleabay which just needs a front stay . I'm working through the rolling chassis from front to back now with a view to finally getting it all finished off .I plan on fitting a pair of repro instruments (again for that RC bike look) , and hope to have the front braking system sorted out soon .I've fitted a set of chrome drag bars and I've also ordered a q/a throttle,a pair of foam grips and  a set of throttle/ clutch cables which should arrive any day now . I'll need to get a front braided brake line organised , and a set of new mounting bolts for the front disc .

Got my hands on a couple of nice pieces to help me move my project  forward  ;D . I've managed to pick up a nice ally q/a throttle complete with twin cable kit , so whichever route I take carb wise this kit should do the job . I purchased a new set of front disc mounting bolts off David Silver , I could have got some cheaper off flea bay but I wanted unused ones for this particular job . I also got a pair of braided oil hoses off Cycle X  8) , which arrived promptly and were well packaged . Based on this first time experience of doing business with them I'll definitely buy off them again .

It's been an up and down few weeks since I last posted . The weather over here has been savage , and although we havn't been experiencing the sort of extremes of temperatures that some of you guys in the states and in Australia have been having to endure, the seasonally high winter temperatures over here have resulted in flooding and very destructive high winds . We've been lucky we live on high ground and only had a tile blow off the house roof and go straight through the conservatory roof , which I spent most of last weekend fixing :( . Bike wise , things are moving on slowly . I plan on using a remote starter but so far havn't been able to find anyone who does a starter nut  for my bike, I've tried APE and Pingle , both who responded promptly and Cycle X who havn't yet  ::).I used to use a set of rollers to start the blown Triumph but these were heavy and I was a lot younger then ;D ;D, so that's not an option any more , maybe one of the remote electric starters which turn the rear wheel by means of two small rollers that I've seen a guy using at race meetings  may be a better option , I'll have to investigate.The rear mudguard has been proving difficult to get a handle on but I think I've finally got it sussed out . I'm running a 7ins rear tyre and was hoping to use a chrome mudguard but I havn't been able to come by one in the right width so I've managed to pick an 8ins steel one instead which I'll be painting because I think that getting it chromed would be prohibitively expensive and  it should look good painted . Anyway that's it for the moment . A couple of pics of the back end.
