Need help updating handlebar controls...
« on: September 16, 2012, 04:50:44 PM »
Looking to update and simplify the handlebar controls for a '76 750F1. She has clipons with the old stock controls, but I want to go with as simple and clean looking setup as possible. Those of you who updated your controls- what are you running? And would love to see pics.

Slingshot-Cycles (a member here) sells a sloped master cylinder (keeps the reservoir level with clip-ons) that looks modern Looks like the MC on my '11 Ninja 250. It also has threads for a mirror.

http://slingshot-cycles.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=53&products_id=91

If you're looking for one without a mirror mount and don't mind spending a little extra, MikesXS also has a sloped one.

http://www.mikesxs.net/product/08-4004.html

Not sure what the stock MC bore is on the 750s, but both links will tell you what bore their MCs are.

As for the clutch side, I'm not sure if you want to keep all the controls or not. If not, just about any dirtbike clutch perch will do. If you want to keep the controls, I'm sure there's clean/modern aftermarket ones.

I converted my switchgear all over to push button and went with the Nissin m/c. My current set up only has 2 buttons on each bar. One button is the horn , another does the hi/low and off for the head lamp. The last 2 are for the directionals. My starter is a separate push button, but it's mounted up near the guages. Im using a Motogadget M-Unit to make all this work. The switch gear is Motogadget as well.

My K8 with K&S switch gear , Nissin M/C , Tarozzi clip on's , shaved top tree , Acewell , stock tach . I hate these bars !
Found this bike in completely stock condition in Feb. 08. Paid over twice what my new one cost 30 years ago. Am trying to re-create the look of the late 70's Drag Bike styling.More later. 4-2-10 It ain't stock any more and I have no idea what I am trying to create !

Wow. Now that is simple.

I want to keep the hi/low beam and plan on relocating and replacing the ignition with a vehicle ignition switch (turn key starter). Other than that, just need a simplified clutch lever, hi/low beam, push/pull throttle tube and brake lever.

Love to see other setups you guys are running.

Clean setup. How'd you mount the tach?

Simple, just scrap aluminum to the original key switch mounts, it works and looks good but I just cannot get comfortable with these adjustable clip-ons. I want/need rearsets , no $$$ for those yet. The change in position would probably make the bars better.
