Topic: compatible fuel tanks '76 CB550F

im going to purchase a fuel tank for my bike now... umm, i see various restorable tanks for about $50 on craigslist, ebay, etc so thats a fair price im shooting for, but what im wondering is what takes are compatible?

by this i mean which tanks actually fit and look right... and which tanks are the same shape as the 550F tanks, which from i gather are a different length than standard CB tanks, in case i decide to restore it to its full supersport condition?

you have to use the matching seat with any given tank...the 550f tank is longer than the k tank... so if you use the f tank with a k seat they will interfere, if you use the k tank with the f seat there will be an empty space between the seat and the tank...other than that either will mount right up.  Some one else will have to chime in on the 77-78' bikes.  I have no experience with those.

im familiar with that, so what im curious about is among all honda CBs... which tanks are physically identicle to the 550K tank, and which ones to the 550F tank?

is there any difference between a CB500F fuel tank and a CB550F fuel tank?
