I'll get a picture of the CycleX oil cooler adapter tonight. It's nice because you can use it with an oil cooler or without by removing / adding allen screws. Just make sure you use teflon tape.

Do you use any particular flavor of ZDDP additive? I run Rislone in the 66 stang however I was thinking of switching to Redline. I fell in love with their assembly lube.

I figure any zinc additive is better than nothing. I ran some Lucas stuff, and am now running the ZDDP. I think it's like oil preference ;)

Started on the improved oil cooler mount patterned off of Branden's design. I'm about 80% done with it and will post up some pictures when it's done. Another big thanks to Branden for sending detailed photos of the mounts. I was having a difficult time envisioning a way to hang it up there.

Probably wont be able to work on it over the next few days...day job is starting to get in the way.

Here are a couple photos of the cycleX oil cooler adapter. I tried to get a shot from underneath but didnt turn out real well. I dont really like how close the lines are on the adapter. I'm going to run L plugs in and then an adjustable L plug out into stainless braid to a 45 degree plug at the cooler.

Just stumbled upon this build... I like the Modular Idea. In fact I did a similar thing myself. In less than 30 minutes I can switch from a low hardtail bobber with a solo seat back to a more stock-ish style of cb... It wasn't intended as such, but it has worked out to be two bikes in one. Bolt on struts and seat and a bar swap.

I dig it man! I really like that high back bar. I have a similar one that I made out of rebar on the tail of the Zuke 1400.

I want to do essentially the same type of thing.  I want to be able to run cafe style for commutes to work and such but when I go on long hauls I can put a corbin gunfighter on there and not lose my a$$.

I'm not sure the wife is going to ride this one with me. She heard it fire up and said "it sounds scarier than the 'truder". I'll take that as a compliment I guess :-D

My "bobber" was cool for bar hopping. It gets a lot of...uhhh...Compliments? Gets a lot of questions thats for sure. But its a pain for anything longer than 20 miles and highway performance blows. But if I keep things going the direction I am, in 30 minutes I can switch between the two. Compatibility baby... The wife gets a ride too. But its been a battle between my current seat and she wants one of those god-awful fat ended king/queen jobs....

The best laid plans of mice and men...

The brakes are bled up and working. I made a bracket for the R6 brembo rear master that's essentially a kidney bean made out of weld steel but it works. I want to clean it up and probably give it a shot of gloss black. The Nissin front unit is mounted up, bled and works nicely.

Rolled it out and got the carbs all sync'd up. It's amazing how little clacking those carbs make when they are in sync and set at about 1400 rpm. I dont see any leaks which is fantastic!

and then it started to rain :-(

Oh well...i have it ready for the test ride when the weather clears up. Here are a couple shots in the garage. She needs a little cleaning too...

Took her out for a slow jaunt this evening. Two things are abundantly clear

1) there is still air in the rear brakes
2) the engine has surpassed the capacity of the clutch that is in it.

 would hit about 3000 rpm and it would let go. I think the springs are weak as it felt real easy working the clutch.

Anyone have recommendations on plates and springs?

Other than that it ran and handled great! Surprisingly comfortable even with no padding.

Actually Seth, the springs are similar to stock in the Ape clutch, its the extra plate that does the trick.... ;)

The Barnetts were a bit "on and off" and had a heavier lever, these ones APE have don't do any of that.... ;)

Should I start with the springs and get the discs if I need them or get the whole ball of wax? I changed out the discs back in 2008 (i think) because the originals disintegrated.

This next one might stir up a hornets nest but...I run Mobil1 in all my machines that dont get AMES. That being said, could that be attributing to some of the slippage? I hear these older bikes prefer conventional.

And new updates...last night I rode it up to the fuel station and put about 3 gallons of gas in it. This morning I was awoken by the smell of gas wafting through my house. The bike is living in an attached garage and when I went out to check on things I was met with the site of probably 2 gallons of that gas on the floor  >:(

I swore I set all the floats at 17mm however it would seem I didn't get the #2 float set properly as it's got a slow -> steady dribble out it's overflow. Is it possible to drop the bowl, adjust the float, and reset the bowl with the carbs on the bike or do they have to come off?
I had the petcock in the "off" position and had rebuilt it. Is there anyway I could have put it together backwards or wrong? Is it possible to fit one from a different bike since the F petcocks seem to be made from unobtanium?

I'll poke around the search feature and see what I can dig up but any help would be appreciated. I'm a tad frustrated but eventually the kinks will get worked out.

Ordered Part #: 20-8037 from vintagecb750.com. According to the description that petcock should fit the F tank with the exit being oriented towards the rear instead of aimed at the carbs.

Hopefully that is the case and it fits...

Next up...fix the carb drainage and rear brake...

I just realized the APE kit is the discs, plates, and HD springs...and it's about $100 which was less than the kits from Dynoman. So I'm going to give it a crack!

What's your all's opinion on the oil and fixing the carb float level on the bike?

Asking for opinions about oil is very very dangerous, plus it kills puppies.

But since you asked. Running any car oil is not a great idea, and running synthetic car oil is even less of a great idea. Car oils are designed for maximum slipperiness, great for the inside of an engine, not so great for a clutch.

Conventional motorcyle oils however are designed to work with shared engine/clutch systems. If you ride in really hot weather and so like the idea of synthetic then just make sure it is both motorcycle specific and for wet clutch systems.
