Measuring paint thickness gauge
« on: September 28, 2012, 04:43:11 PM »
Wondering if a little meter like this would be useful:

Not cheap at $400 but made in Germany accuracy. They sell certified samples as well, to check it with, for more. Other models cost even more. Switchable steel/aluminum. Measures to 1/2 a thou/mil.

Not really required for anything you will paint on these bikes.  My old man is an industrial spray painter and he regularly has a window of 8 microns (0.008mm) or less on the thickness of paint he applies.  In this instance it is a necesity, but for laying paint on a bike it's not required.

I'm an industrail painter as well and we use the electronic thickness gauge for certain industrial applications where necessary not needed for car or bike painting at all... ;)

But they are handy to take with you when going to inspect cars before you buy them to see if they have bog in the panels ;)

Fridge magnets are cheaper........... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Nice if you can borrow one. Where I read about it the suggestion was to check for bodywork.

Nice that it does aluminum also.

I didn't know they existed but at that price, it is definitely down further on the list of things I "need".

Not much use on Land Rovers and some modern cars.  (magnets).     :)
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.
