First of all..... I thought all the new Honda's are unicam? Second of all, why is it that all the "standard" bikes have dumb downed (or just out right retarded) versions of the hi-end 160+hp engines that come cradled in anything with a fairing? My buddies 96 zx6 that has hardly been maintained made 129 hp on the dyno. My brothers zr-750 would be lucky to make 80+hp.

yep, flame them, easy to slash Honda on power and weight, but look at how many 62hp/ 451 lbs Triumph Twins are selling ....they make up 30% of their sales i hear

Honestly, most folk i see on those Triumph twins couldnt care less if the bike has 50-60-70-80 hp, they are out there to pose/pot around.

for me the main problem is the CB1100 sorta falls between chairs, not really vintage, not really dont-know-what, just too plain Vanilla.

Another thing. Whats that tone ring doing on the rear wheel? ABS? No ring on the front that I can see. Are they doing a "Ford" having rear abs only? Also why the 80's style tank? What a disgrace that tank is. (Sorry, but its true.) I'll stick with my 550.

It is kinda strange to have an 1100cc with so LITTLE HP. HONDA was making 120HP V4 in the 1982 MAGNA/SABER.. They may be just numbers  to make INS. companies happy, kinda like they did with the V4 750 Magna/ then they went to the V4 700cc ,, say WHAT!! same engine just detuned.

The 750 went to a 700 to avoid a Harley inspired tariff placed on 750+cc imports. The tariff was later lifted.

I think Turbo has it right. The target market doesn't care for the extra horsepower. 80 is plenty.

That's right. If you want a sport bike, that's what you gotta have. But if you want anything else, 80hp and 50ft torq is a magic point. Few riders can use that to its fullest. The broader the band the better. (Assuming the 1100 has 50ft and a broad band).

A good rider can really make it fly.

ZR 750 engine is from the 70's, can't really compare the two.

I like it.  Those triumph bikes are selling cause they figured out not everyone wants a crotch rocket or a v-twin chopper or harley.  Some people want *gasp* just a motorcycle.  I don't HAVE to make some statement with my motorcycle or incorporate it into my identity.  Wonder how much it costs.

Since they have been available for three years is some parts of the world, if they were not selling then Honda wouldn't be expanding the market.   There is a market for JSM's, but the manufactures just abandoned it when the crotch rockets and v-twins took off.  I would buy the 1100 in a heartbeat if they ever imported it to the US.

I'm seeing new prices around 15k USD.  Seems high to me.  I think you can get a high end cbr for around 10k right?

I do like it but not for 15k. 8-9 would be better especially if you can spend just as much on a cbr.  even if you don't want a sport bike, your just paying for the iconic appeal, not that there is anything wrong with that.  I want it to look like my 74 but have over 100bhp.  Also, I cant make my mind up about the tank.  its alright but i don't like the angled dip or whatever on the bottom back.  The bonneville is about 9k i think.

I like it. When it was first announced at Tokyo a few years ago, I wrote to US Honda asking if they intended to import it. A few weeks later I received a phone call from them. No, there were no plans to bring it here but (and this is the sad/frustrating/infuriating part), Honda was coming out with a bike that would appeal to those that remembered the CB bikes. That bike was yet another V-twin cruiser. Crikey. They don't get it and apparently don't want to get it.

If I didn't already have four bikes, I would be willing to buy a CB1100. (I didn't have so many when I wrote to Honda.)

You would probably not be asking that had they chose to make that a woman ride withair braided or peaking out of the helmet in a bright pink jacket and leather pants.

The artist chose the colors and esthetics to give it a balance fung shei (spelling) look most likely.
If it is a naked super touring bike why not picture a rider in touring styled attire?

Wouldn't you call that color more of a salmon?  Way too metrosexual a color...

That's right! we'll spend crazy money to get to that level, and it is a fun level. But a showroom bike, bullet proof, leak free, with that kind of performance is real fun.

But building up our old bikes is a fun of its own. It's not apples to apples. But at 80+ hp its time to learn how to ride better.
