Video: What un-synched carbs sound like, 75 CB550K1
« on: October 05, 2012, 02:47:46 PM »
Monitoring the threads over the last few days, I have seen indications of out of synch carbs being one of the underlying causes for member frustration.  Having recently remodeled a CB550K1 this year, I wanted to provide audio/visual input as to what out of balance sounds like for our new owners who may (like I did) confuse or misdiagnose out of synch carbs with other things such as piston knock, rod knock, bent valve, worn or broken cam chain tensioner, blow-by, worn crankshaft bearings, or clutch rattle.

After putting her on the manometer and balancing out the carbs she purred like the kitten honda created her to be.

Here is the link to the video that I just posted:  CB550 Carbs out of Synch/Balance

Why not post an after synch video for effect?

Here is the after video.  Idle air adjustments still had to be made at this juncture, but the manometer synch made onehellofa difference in bringing her back to life.  Also added a pic of what she looks like as of last week.

Awesome, thanks! This is exactly what I needed!

Mine's making a weird clunk-clunk noise at semi-random intervals. I'm hoping that goes away with a carb synch. What is that noise?

Nice. I've never had one that was badly out of synch so I haven't seen a huge difference after synch. The difference is amazing. This should boost manometer sales!

Yeah, I am fortunate enough to have a "motion pro" mercury manometer from the early 70s handed down to me.  All carbs balanced to +/- 1cm of one another and read at about 16cm. While 16cm is a little on the high side, my carbtune and plugs both show a nice golden color on my D7EA plugs.  The hard to find part these days are the manometer tips that have the resistors in them.
