1980 CB650C "The Pocket Knife"
« on: October 07, 2012, 12:02:45 AM »
So, finally had a chance to start doing some teardown on my 650 project today. Took off the exhaust, the headers and four mufflers alone feel like they weigh 60lbs haha. Took out the battery box, air box, and carb rack. Nothin too interesting here, just some typical teardown stuff. Sorry for the iphone pics, soon as I get into some more interesting stuff I will use the Nikon. Just wanted start my build thread and get some pics up. Thanks for looking.

Headers and mufflers were off in ten minutes.

No broken studs, bonus. Looks like the oil leak is coming from the head gasket? Or o-rings in the head?

Can see how the carbs would be a major PITA to take off if I didn't already remove the air box and battery box.

Carb rack out. Looks like fuel has been pissing out of somewhere on the carbs onto the tranny for quite a while.

Float bowls. The drain screws were super gummed up.

Cool shot of the carbs.

Rock hard fuel line from the float bowl drains.

Fuel or Varnish? Ha, this is what drained out of the carbs. All that crap in there even with an inline filter.

Stock air box has been repaired in 3 or 4 spots.

Thats all for today.   -Jay
